Supreme Court in Ujagar Singh v. State of Punjab, (1952) SCR 756 while construing the words “as soon as may be” in Section 7 of the Preventive Detention Act, 4 of 1950 said that these words mean reasonable dispatch and what is reasonable dispatch depends on the facts of each case, it being not possible to set down an arbitrary time limit.
