Agni is the first principle in Rig Veda. The above Mantra was visualised by Viswamitra Madhuchhanda Rishi and it was appeared through using Gayatree metre. This Suktam invoking the mystery of Agni , the Deity. It is the first mantram in Rig Veda. Agni has been described as पुरोहितं/Priest, देव/ The Deity and Ritvijam/ initiator of the Yajna. He is hota and he is the fruit of the Yajna. So in him exist five principles. Therefore he is the first principle of Advaita or unity. Agni divided it into five different properties.
So, what the Madhuchhanda Rishi was saying, that, this venerable Agni was worshipped previously by the elders and ancient Rishis and he was as much popular to the generation of Madhuchhanda Rishi.
Agni is capable to call other Deities such as Bayu, Indra, and Mitra Varuna etc. There exist no Supreme or subordinate Deity in Vedas – all are equal and united with above said five principles. They are diversified in worldly existence. So the fire in Micro Oven is Agni and wind from air cooler is Vayu.
A Sanatan Dharmin worshipped the ‘Beyond’ of earthly fire. Sanatan Dharmin worshipped that Principle due to which earthly fire is there and due to which eyes could perceive it, and due to which the perceiver exists.
“स नः पितेव सूनवेऽग्ने सूपायनो भव ” a humble petition to the Agni that may he be accessible easily like a father to son. This mantra identified universal fatherhood of Agni and creator of wealth.
The preceptor of the mantra belongs to the house of Viswamitra.
