- According to government data, FDI in India grew by 28 per cent and inflow of FDI stood at $16.33 billion during the first quarter of the current fiscal. Singapore emerged as the largest source with $5.33 billion investments.
- Two years after acquiring 80 per cent stake in Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation’s KG Basin gas block, ONGC will now get complete legal ownership of the block. The deal was completed in August 2017 in which ONGC paid about Rs. 7,738 crore.
- According to Crisil, private consumption demand, which has been the bulwark of growth for the last few decades, grew by only 3.1 per cent in the first quarter of this year .So it cut down its GDP forecast (Financial Year 20) to 6.3 per cent from 6.9 per cent earlier.
- The US Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against Novelis, a major aluminium company which is fully owned by India’s Aditya Birla Group, to stop them from acquiring Aleris based in Cleveland, Ohio; as the acquisition could create a monopoly in aluminium industry.
- Telecom operator Reliance Jio launches optic fibre-based Jio Fibre Broadband Service today where customers will get free voice calls for life from landline, 100 mbps to 1 gigabit per second broadband speed for subscription starting from Rs 700 per month.
