Delhi High Court on Wednesday granted a week’s time to the four death row convicts in the 2012 Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case to avail all legal remedies available to them. A single-judge bench of Justice Suresh Kumar Kait said that the proceedings against them for the execution of death warrant will be initiated after a week. The High Court observed that according to Delhi prison rules if a mercy petition is submitted, a 14 days period has to be given after the dismissal of the mercy plea. The death warrant against all four convicts cannot be executed separately, it said.

RAM MANDIR: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday announced that the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra, set up by the government for construction of a temple in Ayodhya, will have 15 trustees and one of them will be from the Dalit community. The home minister’s statement comes a little over an hour after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced in Lok Sabha about the constitution of the trust.

CORONA VIRUS: A baby in China’s epidemic-hit Wuhan city has been diagnosed with the novel coronavirus just 30 hours after being born, Chinese state media reported Wednesday. The infant is the youngest person recorded as being infected by the virus, which has killed nearly 500 people since emerging late last year.

They (authorities) waited for reasons best known to them till convict Mukesh filed a review petition before the Supreme Court on 6 November 2017 after 186 days,” Justice Kait observed.

ANDHRA PRADESH: AP Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting to grant special category status to Andhra Pradesh.
In the light of the specification regarding the issue in the Fifteenth Finance Commission report for the year 2020-21, he has asked the centre to accord the category status.

CHINMAYANANDA: Former Union Minister Swami Chinmayanand (72) was released from the district jail here in Shahjahanpur on Wednesday after the Allahabad High Court granted him bail on Monday in a sexual abuse case filed by a law student.“He (Chinmayanand) was released at 5 pm after all necessary formalities were completed by his lawyer,” confirmed jail superintendent Rakesh Kumar. He said some family members of the former BJP MP had met him on Tuesday but the formalities required for his release could not be completed as the court order had not reached the jail authorities.

UP GOVT ALLOTED LAND TO SUNNIS:  Soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday announced in Parliament a trust to manage the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya, the state cabinet gave its approval to the proposal for allotment of five-acre land to UP Sunni Central Waqf Board for the construction of a mosque as ordered by the Supreme Court in the Ram Janmbhoomi-Babri Masjid case on November 9 last year.

BANKING LAW REFORM: In order to protect interest of depositors, the Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved amendment to Banking Regulation Act to strengthen cooperative banks and avoid PMC Bank like crisis. There are 1,540 cooperative banks with depositor base of 86 million having total savings of about Rs 5 trillion.

TAX DISPUTE BILL: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday introduced a bill in Lok Sabha which seeks to provide for resolution of disputed tax cases involving Rs 9.32 trillion. Introducing the Direct Tax Vivad Se Vishwas Bill, 2020, the minister said this bill emphasises on trust building. The scheme, she said, will not be an open ended scheme and can be availed for a limited time.

NEW PORTS: The government on Wednesday approved setting up a new major port at Vadhavan near Dahanu in Maharashtra at a cost of Rs 65,544.54 crore. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “Cabinet gives in-principle approval for setting up a new Major Port at Vadhavan in Maharashtra. Total cost of the project is likely to be Rs 65,544.54 crore,” an official statement said.

The Islamic Penal Code deals with the types of offences and punishments and the security and correctional measures that shall be applied to the offender. Criminal laws shall apply to all persons who commit a crime within the territorial, maritime and aerial jurisdiction of the Islamic Republic of Iran, unless otherwise provided by law. When part of an offence is committed inside Iran and its result occurred outside Iranian territory, or part of an offence is committed inside or outside Iran and its result occurred inside Iran, the offence shall be deemed as having been committed inside Iran.
