Addressing a program on the occasion of Bhanu Jayanti on Monday, Oli remarked that-
“We still think we gave Sita to Prince Ram of India. We gave Sita to Ram of Ayodhya, not of India. Ayodhya is a village a little west of Birgunj. It is not Ayodhya now.”
Oli has even raised the question of how the son of the king of Ayodhya came to Janakpur for marriage if he was in India.
“Janakpur here used to be his Ayodhya, where he has tried to marry his daughter. What has Kalle done? In those days, there was no telephone, no mobile phone! From where to know! It was not possible to know,” he said.
Former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai has satirized Oli’s statement and tweeted, “Let’s listen to the new Ramayana.”
Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairman Kamal Thapa tweeted that the recent incident did not seem to have attracted the attention of the Prime Minister to create more disputes between Nepal and India.
Former Foreign Minister Ramesh Nath Pandey tweeted in English: “Religion is above politics and diplomacy. It is a very emotional subject. Absurd expressions only make you ashamed. Where is the Sarayu river near Ayodhya Birgunj?”
CPN (Maoist) Deputy Chief of Foreign Affairs Vishnu Rijal also tweeted that it was “mysterious” for Oli to make such statements one after another.
