India had never known a theocratic state till the advent of Islam in this country in the first quarter of the eighth century AD. Hindu Dharma has always been a pluralistic religion. Hindu culture and society too have been pluralistic throughout their hoary history. It was, therefore, impossible for the Hindus to erect an established church or to proclaim a state religion and call upon the State to impose it by force.

Hindu society has been inspired through the ages by such mighty ãtras as the Vedas, the Upanishads, the Gita, the Jainãgama, the TripiTaka, the various Yogaãstras, the VãNî of Siddhas and Sants, and the devotional outpourings of Alvars and Nayanars. Hindu society has been reawakened and reformed by such visionaries as Bankim Chandra, Maharshi Dayananda, Swami Vivekananda, Sri Aurobindo, Rabindranath, and Subramanya Bharati.

Program development included the collaborative efforts of each district’s commanders, senior department executives, and civilian planners.

In Civil Writ Petition No. 8596(W) of 2007, the prayer of the petitioners is to pay adequate compensation to the victims of police firing on 14th of March, 2007, in view of the acts of omission and commission on the part of the State Government and its officers and its failure to protect the people of Nandigram and its surrounding areas. The petitioners have claimed compensation at the rate not less than Rs. 10 (ten) lakhs to the families of each of those who were killed. No figure has been mentioned with regard to the injured persons. However, a prayer has been made for payment of compensation, which shall not be less than Rs. 8 (eight) lakhs in case of rape victims and adequate compensation in other cases of molestation and sexual assault.

I was told that near two places in Nandigram area a large number of people had collected and they were objecting to the acquisition of agricultural land. They were also not allowing the construction of road and bridges to take place. They were obstructing the work that was going on over there. So, the workers were going to that place to construct the road and the bridges. They were also supported by the police. It seems that when they came close to each other some altercation took place and stones were thrown at each other.

The president signed the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 into law on August 14, 2008. The nearly 1,200 page bill includes many new reporting requirements for institutions, grant programs for colleges and students, and provisions designed to lower the cost of a college education. It addresses simplifying the federal aid application, developing campus safety plans, and rules regarding relationships between higher education institutions and student lenders. The law also mandates studies on 24 topics, including articulation agreements, nursing school capacity, and the impact of student loan debt on public service-Rute Pinhel, Research Analyst II
