  • Address by Penny Wong to Maritime Cooperation Forum (ASEAN-Australia Summit 2024) - 04 March 2024 : In her keynote address to the Maritime Cooperation Forum at the ASEANASEAN The Association of Southeast Asian Nations. Members: Brunei Cambodia Indonesia Laos Malaysia Myanmar Philippines Singapore Thailand Vietnam-Australia Special Summit 2024 in Melbourne, Senator the Hon Penny Wong expressed gratitude to Laos and the Philippines and highlighted the strong ties and Strategic Partnership between the Philippines and Australia. She emphasized the importance of ASEAN's centrality and the need for collective efforts to maintain peace, stability, and prosperity in the region. Senator Wong also announced Australia's commitment to enhancing maritime partnerships, supporting resilience in the Mekong subregion, and conducting Maritime Cooperative Activities to ensure security and stability. She stressed the significance of open and transparent communication and preserving the region's character free from coercion or force.
