The Civil War was fought in England between the supporters of King Charles I, called Royalists or Cavaliers, and those who supported Parliament, called Roundheads. It lasted for 7 years and a a number of major battles were fought.
In 1645, on June 14th, the Parliamentary side led by Oliver Cromwell won at the battle of Naseby. The King’s supporters continued to fight but they were finally beaten at the Battle of Preston. The King was put on trial for treason and executed in 1649
