On 29 April 2023, the District Judgeship of Alipurduar was formally separated from the District Judgeship of Jalpaiguri. During the transitional period, the Learned District and Sessions Judge of Jalpaiguri concurrently assumed responsibility as the Learned District and Sessions Judge of Alipurduar, holding court in Alipurduar twice weekly. Concurrently, the Court of the Learned Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate-I, Alipurduar, commenced operations as the Court of the Learned Chief Judicial Magistrate, while the Court of the Learned Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate-II was redesignated as the Court of the Learned Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate. Subsequently, on 29 August 2023, Alipurduar was appointed its first permanent Learned District and Sessions Judge. At present, a total of ten Courts—across both Civil and Criminal jurisdictions—are functioning under the District Judgeship of Alipurduar.
