Ports, Shipping & Waterways Ministry: Yearly Performance (2024)

The Green Waterway Initiative launched by India’s Prime Minister on February 23, 2024, introduced hybrid electric vessels aimed at sustainable transport along key rivers, bolstering religious tourism. Subsequent project unveilings revealed investments surpassing Rs. 10,324 crore, focusing on container terminals, tourism facilities, and hydrogen fuel initiatives. India’s maritime sector experienced marked improvements, achieving 22nd rank in the Logistics Performance Index and enhancing cargo capacity significantly. The International Maritime Heritage Conclave and various new committees were established to address emerging maritime challenges and promote inland water transport, supporting India’s broader economic goals as part of its Maritime India Vision 2030.
