Heads of State and Government from Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, and Niger met in Nouakchott, Mauritania to discuss common development challenges, focusing primarily on education. Acknowledging the critical role of education, they endorsed the “Nouakchott Declaration”, setting common objectives for boosting children’s learning and dealing with rising illiteracy and school dropout rates. They emphasized the need for quality education, enlarging girls’ participation in secondary education, and enhancing basic skills among young adults. This initiative also urged the adoption of innovative strategies and increased public spending on education.
