NATIONAL

  • A Memorandum of Intent was signed between India and Russia on the development of maritime communications between Chennai and Vladivostok.

  • Russia is going to launch a special stamp to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of M.K. Gandhi, Indian Ambassador to Moscow D.B. Venkatesh Varma said today. 
  • Ramesh Solanki, a member of the Shiv Sena IT cell, filed a police complaint against Netflix, alleging that it is ‘defaming Hindus and India’ through its shows. Solanki gave examples of series like Sacred Games, Laila and Ghoul, along with shows of stand-up comedian Hasan Minhaj to accuse Netflix of trying to ‘paint an incorrect picture of Hindus and India globally.’
  • The Enforcement Directorate today sought 14 day custody of Karnataka congress leader DK Shibkumar , arrested last night in a money laundering case.

  •  PSB stocks, led by Corporation Bank and Punjab National Bank, plunges up to 9.3% after the government announced the merger of 10 public sector banks into four with a view to boost credit and spur growth.
  •  Prices of 24 karat gold rose by Rs.538 to Rs 38,987 per 10 gram in Delhi Today
  •  Banking details of Indians with accounts in Switzerland will be available to tax
    authorities as the automatic exchange of information regime started between the two countries.
  • Investors lose Rs 2.55 trillion as stocks crash over economic slowdown, whereas the BSE benchmark Sensex tumbled 769.88 points, or 2.06 percent, to close at 36,562.91.
  • The gold is hitting Rs 40,000 mark.

  •  केरल के मुख्यमंत्री पिनाराई विजयन ने कल महाराजा कॉलेज से थायकुडम तक कोच्चि मेट्रो स्टेशन का उद्घाटन किया। विजयन ने इस दौरान कहा कि अगले साल मार्च तक देश का पहला वाटर मेट्रो कोच्चि वाटर मेट्रो का परिचालन शुरू हो जाएगा।

  • Parliament passed Code on Wages Bill, 2019 on 2nd August to replaces the 4 laws- the Payment of Wages Act, 1936, the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, the Payment of Bonus Act, 1965, and the Equal Remuneration Act, 1976. The new bill seeks to regulate wage and bonus payments in all employments where any industry, trade, business, or manufacturing is carried out.
  • A 1983-batch Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS) Officer Girraj Prasad became the new Controller General of Accounts (CGA) on 1 August. CGA is the Principal Accounting Adviser to Government of India. It functions under the Department of Expenditure, Union Ministry of Finance
  • Udaipur (Rajasthan) was the host of the event “ScooNews Global Educators Fest (SGEF)” on 9th and 10th August 2019 . The theme was ‘Education for Sustainability: Moving on from conformity to creativity’
  • Scientists from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom (UK), claim to have created the world’s thinnest gold (Au) which is one million times thinner than fingernail of human. As it appears to be green in the water, researchers named it gold “nanoseaweed”. This paperwork was published in the journal called Advanced Science.
