New Zealand: At least one person was killed, several injured and others reported missing in New Zealand after a volcano erupted off the east coast of its North Island on Monday. Twenty-three people, some of them believed to be tourists from the Ovation of the Seas cruise ship, were rescued from White Island, where the volcano erupted at about 2:11 p.m. The White Island is about 50 km (30 miles) from the east coast of North Island and huge plumes were visible from the mainland. Vulcanologists said the ash plume shot 12,000 feet into the air.
Global Arms sale: Arms sales rose by nearly five percent worldwide in 2018 in a market dominated by the United States, according to a new report published Monday by the Stockholm International PeacePeace εἰρήνη Research Institute (SIPRI). The turnover of the 100 biggest arms manufacturers came to $420 billion, thanks in large part to the US market, said the report.

UP Fast Track Court: The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet on Monday cleared a proposal to set up 218 new fast-track courts. Of the total 218 courts, 144 will hear cases of rape, while 74 will examine cases registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, State LawLaw Positive command of sovereign or divine.
