NATIONAL HEADLINES

MAHARASHTRA: President’s rule has been imposed in Maharashtra on Tuesday after governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari in a report to the Centre stated that formation of a stable government was impossible in the current situation despite efforts. The Cabinet recommended that the President issue a Proclamation under Article 356(1) of the Constitution imposing President’s rule in Maharashtra and keep the state legislative assembly under suspended animation.

INDUSTRIAL OUTPUT : A severe contraction in factory output has prompted observers of the Indian economy to downsize their estimate of the pace with which it could have grown in the July-September quarter (Q2 FY20).So much, that most of them have put the headline number at 4.2-4.7 per cent.

VODAPFONE: Vodafone said its future in India could be in doubt unless the government stopped hitting operators with higher taxes and charges, after a court judgment over license fees resulted in a 1.9 billion euro group loss in its first half. Chief Executive Nick Read said India, where Vodafone formed a joint venture with Idea Cellular in 2018, had been “a very challenging situation for a long time”, but it remained a sizable market where Vodafone had a 30% share.
