On November 30, 2023, Director-General of the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Hong Liang and Joint Secretary of the East Asia Division of Ministry of External Affairs of India Gourangalal Das co-chaired the 28th Meeting of Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) on China-India Border Affairs. Representatives of government agencies for foreign affairs, national defense and immigration affairs of the two countries attended the meeting.
The two sides fully affirmed the positive progress made in negotiations on the China-India border situation, and had comprehensive, in-depth and constructive discussions on the current China-India border-related issues. The two sides agreed to earnestly implement the guiding principles of the important common understandings reached by the leaders of the two countries, maintain the momentum of diplomatic and military negotiations, hold the 21st Round of Corps Commanders Level Meeting at an early date, promote the settlement of issues related to the border areas, and turn the page in the situation of the border areas at an early date.
The two sides agreed to improve the mechanism for negotiation and consultation, consolidate the existing outcomes of negotiation, strictly abide by the agreements signed and confidence-building measures reached between the two sides, and jointly safeguard peace and tranquility in the border areas.
