CESE PROFILE

The CESC is the sole power distribution company in Kolkata, Howrah and adjoining
areas and the state-owned WBSEDCL supplies power to the rest across the state.

CESC Limited, a Company under the Companies Act, 1956, is a distribution licensee in the State of West Bengal for supply of electricity in Kolkata and some areas in the districts of Howrah, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas of the State. It was a licensee under the provisions of the Indian Electricity Act, 1910 (since repealed) and has become a deemed licensee in terms of the first proviso to section 14 of the Act with effect from 10.06.2003 i.e. the date of coming into force of the Act.
