Church of North India (CNI): Calcutta Bishop Paritosh Canning (21st Bishop of Diocese of Calcutta) has been accused of massive financial corruption by members of CNI’s Calcutta and Barrackpore diocese. An organization called All Bengal Christian People’s Forum also held a press conference in this connection a few days ago.
Professor Deepak Nath claims that Paritosh Canning’s class 12 and graduation degree certificates are fake. Allegations are also being raised that Paritosh became a bishop by bribing PC Singh with crores of rupees. It is being claimed that Parithosh has assets worth at least 50 crore rupees. He owns properties, including bungalows in Dubai and London, six flats in Kolkata, and land. More serious allegations are being made about taking money from students.
CNI runs many prominent educational institutions, including La Martiniere, St. James, St. Thomas Khidirpur, Scottish Church College, etc, in Kolkata. It is alleged that Bishop Paritosh collects huge amounts of money for admission to these educational institutions. He usually takes ten lakh rupees per student; such serious allegations were made in the press conference organised by the All Bengal Christian People’s Forum.
