30th Meeting of Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) on China-India Border Affairs

On July 31, 2024, the 30th Meeting of Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) on China-India Border Affairs took place in New Delhi, co-chaired by Hong Liang, Director-General of the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs of the Foreign Ministry, and Gourangalal Das, Joint Secretary of the East Asia Division of Ministry of External Affairs of India. The meeting was attended by representatives of government agencies for foreign affairs, national defense, and immigration affairs from both countries.
During the meeting, both sides expressed their commitment to actively implementing important common understandings reached at the recent bilateral meeting between the two foreign ministers. They agreed to focus on specific issues related to the China-India border, accommodate each other’s legitimate concerns, and work towards a mutually acceptable solution in a timely manner.

Additionally, they pledged to maintain open communication through diplomatic and military channels, enhance negotiation mechanism building, expedite the negotiation process, and usher in a new phase in the border situation to promote the stable and positive development of China-India relations. Both parties also emphasized the importance of strictly abiding by existing agreements and continuing efforts to uphold peace and tranquility in the border areas.
