Justice Ranjan Gogoi retires as CJI. The new  Supreme Court Collegium will now comprise of Chief Justice of India SA Bobde, NV Ramana, Arun Mishra, Rohinton Nariman and R Banumathi.  

Ladakh : Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the supply of a special diesel for the Union Territory of Ladakh. The winter-grade diesel has been developed by Indian Oil Corporation, and stays unfrozen up to minus 33 degrees Celsius. Shah said that at the time of abrogation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status and bifurcation into two Union Territories, the Centre had promised multiple development initiatives for the region.

Srilanka: Sri Lanka’s wartime defence secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa will be the next President. Rajapaksa, 70, defeated Premadasa, 52, by more than 13 lakh votes, according to the official results. Rajapaksa, who will succeed President Maithripala Sirisena for a five-year term, will be sworn in as the seventh executive president of Sri Lanka on Monday at the ancient north-central town of Anuradhapura. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, famed for ended Sri Lanka’s nearly 30-year civil war with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam.

JNU: The Delhi Police has registered an first information report in connection with the ‘vandalism’ of administration block of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) last week, officials said on Sunday.

LOC: One soldier was killed while two others were injured in a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) blast along the Line of Control (LoC) in Pallanwalla area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Akhnoor on Sunday, defence spokesperson said.

UAE: Desire to strengthening its ties with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Government of India has decided to extend the duration of the visa-on-arrival available to UAE nationals. Instead of 30 days, the visa-on-arrival will now be available for 60 days, with double entry for business, tourism, conference and medical purposes.

USA: The United States Senate has unanimously passed a resolution recognizing the historical, cultural and religious significance of the 550th birthday of Sikhism founder Guru Nanak Dev, besides the Sikh’s contributions in the US’ growth.
