SABARIMALA: The women pilgrims were kept from entering the shrine after the Pinarayi Vijayan-led Kerala government did a u-turn Friday, citing “grey areas” in the apex court’s judgment.

SABARIMALA: The Sabarimala was opened on Saturday for a three-month pilgrimage season after the Supreme Court referred to a larger bench on women’s entry. The state government has said it won’t provide protection to women devotees but many activists have announced their plan to enter the temple. The Sabarimala Karma Samiti, a top body of Hindu outfits, said it will block women if they try to enter the temple.

TRUMP IMPEACHMENT: Amid the ongoing impeachment hearings against him by a Democrats-dominated Congressional panel, US President Donald Trump has asserted that he has the right to speak and the freedom of speech. “In the history of our country, there has never been a disgrace like what’s going on right now. So, you know what, I have the right to speak. I have the freedom of speech just as other people do have. But they (Democrats) have taken away the Republicans rights (to ask questions),” Trump told reporters in a media interaction at the White House.

BANK GUARANTEE: The government is planning to bring in laws to regulate multi-state cooperative banks and raise the insurance cover on bank deposits from the current Rs 1 lakh, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

As the House is answerable to the people and I hope parties will raise issues of public interest. There should be a debate in the House, and for that, it should function.”
