Lead News

The first of its kind, 311 illegal  Indian migrants – 310 men and one woman put on a Boeing 747-400 charter by Mexican immigration authorities for illegally entering the country to sneak into the United States landed in national capital Delhi’s airport early this morning. Previously the United States that has nudged Mexico to step up efforts to check people crossing its borders. The 310-odd Indians had been caught over a period of weeks and months in the Mexican states of Oaxaca, Baja California, Veracruz, Chiapas, Sonora, Mexico City, Durango and Tabasco. Many of them are said to be from Punjab.

INX media case: A charge sheet was filed by CBI against 14 people including P Chidambaram and his son Karti, in INX media case. The charge sheet was filed before the Court of Special CBI Judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar. Prateek Hajela: The Supreme Court today ordered the Centre and Assam government to transfer National Register of Citizens (NRC) coordinator Prateek Hajela to Madhya Pradesh for the maximum period with immediate effect.

Ayodhya case: Five Supreme Court lawyers of the Muslim parties in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case issued a joint statement today in which they denied reports suggesting that the Sunni Waqf Board was withdrawing from the case and told that they “do not accept” the reported compromise made during the mediation process.

Guru Ravidas temple: The Centre today told the Supreme Court that it is willing to hand over 200 square metre area at the same site where the Guru Ravidas temple was demolished in August after a court’s order.

CJI: Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi on October 17 sent a letter to Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and recommended Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde as his successor. Justice Bobde will have tenure of one year and five months as CJI till April 23, 2021.

INTERNATIONAL

China: China’s GDP growth is at its slowest rate in nearly three decades in the third quarter, it was effected by cooling domestic demand and a protracted US trade war, official data showed today. The Chinese economy grew 6.0 per cent in July-September, compared with 6.2 per cent in the second quarter, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

Pakistan: International terror financing watchdog FATF today retained Pakistan on the Grey List and warned the country of action for its failure in combating money laundering and terror financing, officials said. The decision was taken after a five-day plenary of the Paris-based Financial Action Task Force (FATF) held here.

ECONOMY

M-cap: Reliance Industries (RIL), today hit another milestone as the market capitalisation (m-cap) of the company breached the coveted Rs 9 trillion-mark, the first by any Indian company.

Reliance Industries Ltd: Mukesh Ambani-promoted Reliance Industries Ltd on today reported 18.3 per cent increase in its net profit at Rs 11,262 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2019, following a robust growth in retail and digital service businesses.

RBI: The Reserve Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) was unanimous in its view that a deepening economic slowdown is worrying enough to keep interest rates low for longer, Governor Shaktikanta Das stated as reported.
