BRICS: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, a group of major emerging economies known as BRICS, back the idea of developing a common payment system, a Russian official said on Thursday.

PAKISTAN: Pakistan ruled out any deal with India Thursday in the Kulbhushan Jadhav case and said that any step taken to implement the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruling will be according to its Constitution only.

JNU PROTEST: An unveiled statue of Swami Vivekananda in the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus has been defaced and objectionable messages have been written by protesting students of the university on Thursday. JNU vice-chancellor Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar said a complaint will be filed against those behind “vandalising” the statue.

KARNATAKA: A day after the Supreme Court paved the way for them to contest the bypolls, as many as 16 disqualified MLAs on Thursday joined the BJP at the party office in Bengaluru. The Supreme Court on Wednesday had upheld the disqualification of 17 Congress-JDS MLAs in Karnataka by then assembly speaker K R Ramesh Kumar but allowed them to contest the by-polls necessitated by the action against them.

D DAY GUEST: On Wednesday, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro agreed to be the Chief Guest at India’s 71st Republic Day celebrations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is currently in Brazil for the 11th BRICS Summit, had extended the invitation to Bolsonaro during a meeting between the two leaders on the sidelines of the conference.

TELECOM: Bharti Airtel, Voda Idea post a combined loss of Rs 74,000 cr in Sep quarter. Vodafone Idea and Airtel have made provisions for their liabilities arising from the Supreme Court order in their latest September quarter results.

SEBI: The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has decided to give more flexibility to exchanges regarding modifying contract specifications for all commodity derivatives contracts. Changes that exchanges can make include margins, launch date, among others.

ADANI BIDDING: Fair trade regulator CCI on Thursday approved Adani Properties’ acquisition of a 23.5 percent stake in the country’s second-busiest aerodrome Mumbai International Airport. Adani Properties has acquired the shares from Mauritius based Bid Services Division and ACSA Global Ltd.
