भवान् सम्भाषणशिविरं आगतवान् वा ? = Have you come to the conversation camp ?
तर्हि कुत्र दृष्टवान् ? = In that case where have I seen you?
तर्हि तत्रैव दृष्टवान् ।= I must have seen you there in that case.
सरल वाक्यानि ( Simple sentenes )

सामान्य वाक्यानि ( Ordinary sentences)
प्रयत्नं करोमि । = I will try.
न शक्यते भोः । = No, I can’t.
तथा न वदतु । = Don’t say that.
तत्र कोऽपि सन्देहः नास्ति । = There is no doubt about it.
तद् अहं न ज्ञातवान् । = I didn’t know that.
कदा ददाति ? = When are you going to give me ?
अहं कथं वदामि कदा इति ? = How can I say when ?
तथा भवति वा ? = Can that be so ?
भवतः समयावकाशः अस्ति वा ? = Are you free ?
अद्य भवतः कार्यक्रमः कः ? = What are your programmes for today ?
अरे ! पादौ / हस्तौ किं अभवत् ? = Oh! What happened to your legs/arms?
बहुदिनेभ्यः ते परिचिताः । = I have known him for long
तस्य कियद् धैर्यं/धार्ष्ट्यम् ? = How dare he is ?
भवान् न उक्तवान् एव । = You have not told me..
अहं किं करोमि ? = What can I do ?
अहं न जानामि । = I don’t know.
यथा भवान् इच्छति तथा । = As you wish/say.
भवतु, चिन्तां न करोतु = Yes, don’t bother.
तेन किमपि न सिध्यति । = There is no use/nothing hppenns on account of that.
सः सर्वथा अप्रयोजकः । = He is good for nothing.
पुनरपि एकवारं प्रयत्नं कुर्मः । = Let us try once more.
मौनमेव उचितम् । = Better be quiet.
तत्र अहं किमपि न वदामि । = I do not want to say anything in this regard
तर्हि समीचीनम् । = O.K. if that is so.
एवं चेत् कथम् ? = How to get on, if it is so ?
मां किञ्चित् स्मारयतु । = Please remind me.
तं अहं सम्यक् जानामि । = I know him well.
तदानीमेव उक्तवान् किल ? = Haven’t I told you already ?
कदा उक्तवान् भोः ? = When did you say so ?
यत्किमपि भवतु । = Happen what may.
सः बहु समीचीनः = He is a good fellow.
सः बहु रूक्षः । = He is very rough.
तद्विषये चिन्ता मास्तु । = Don’t worry about that.
तथैव इति न नियमः । = It is not like that.
कर्तुं शक्यं, किञ्चित् समयः अपेक्षते । = I/We can do it, but require time.
एतावत् अपि कृतवान् ! = At least he has done this much !
द्रष्टुं एव न शक्यते । = Can’t see it.
तत्रैव कुत्रापि स्यात् । = It may be somewhere there.
यथार्थं वदामि । = I am telling the truth.
एवं भवितुं अर्हति । = This is O.K./all right.
कदाचित् एवमपि स्यात् । = It may be like this sometimes.
अहं तावदपि न जानामि वा ? = Don’t I know that much ?
तत्र गत्वा किं करोति ? = What are you going to do there ?
पुनः आगच्छन्तु । = Come again.
मम किमपि क्लेशः नास्ति । = It is no trouble (to me).
एतद् कष्टं न । = This is not difficult.
भोः, आनीतवान् वा ? = Have you brought it ?
भवतः कृते कः उक्तवान् ? = Who told you this ?
किञ्चिदनन्तरं आगच्छेत् । = He/It may come sometime later.
प्रायः तथा न स्यात् । = By and large, it may not be so.
चिन्ता मास्तु, श्वः ददातु । = It is no bother, return it tomorrow.
अहं पुनः सूचयामि । = I will let you know.
अद्य आसीत् वा ? = Was it today ?
अवश्यं आगच्छामि । = Certainly, I will come.
नागराजः अस्ति वा ? = Is Nagaraj in ?
किमर्थं तत् एवं अभवत् ? = Why did it happen so ?
तत्र आसीत् वा ? = Was it there ?
किमपि उक्तवान् वा ? = Did you say anything ?
कुतः आनीतवान् ? = Where did you bring it from ?
अन्यत् कार्यं किमपि नास्ति । = Don’t have any other work.
मम वचनं शृणोतु । = Please listen to me.
एतत् सत्यं किल ? = It is true, isn’t it ?
तद् अहं अपि जानामि । = I know it myself.
तावद् आवश्यकं न । = It is not needed so badly.
भवतः का हानिः ? = What loss is it to you ?
किमर्थं एतावान् विलम्बः ? = Why are you late ?
यथेष्टं अस्ति । = Available in plenty.
भवतः अभिप्रायः कः ? = What do you say about it ?/What is your opinion ?
अस्य किं कारणम् ? = What is the reason for this ?
स्वयमेव करोति वा ? = Do you do it yourself ?
तत् न रोचते ? = I don’t like it.
उक्तं एव वदति सः । = He has been repeating the same thing.
अन्यथा बहु कष्टम् । = It will be a big botheration if it is not so.
किमर्थं पूर्वं न उक्तवान् ? = Why didn’t you say it earlier ?
स्पष्टं न जानामि । = Don’t know exactly.
निश्चयः नास्ति । = Not sure.
कुत्र आसीत् भवान् ? = Where were you ?
भीतिः मास्तु । = Don’t get frightened.
भयस्य कारणं नास्ति । = Not to fear.
तदहं बहु इच्छामि = I like that very much.
कियत् लज्जास्पदम् ? = What a shame ?
सः मम दोषः न । = It is not my fault.
मम तु आक्षेपः नास्ति । = I have no objection.
सः शीघ्रकोपी । = He is short-tempered.
तीव्रं मा परिगणयतु । = Don’t take it seriously.
आगतः एषः वराकः । = Here comes the miserable.
युक्ते समये आगतवान् । = you have come at the right time.
बहु जल्पति भोः । = He talks too much.
एषा केवलं किंवदन्ती । = It is just gossip.
किमपि न भवति । = Nothing happens.
एवमेव आगतवान् । = Just came to call on you.
विना कारणं किमर्थं गन्तव्यम् ? = Why go there unnecessarily ?
भवतः वचनं सत्यम् । = You are right.
मम वचनं कः शृणोति ? = Who listens to me ?
तदा तद् न स्फुरितम् । = It did not flash me then.
किमर्थं तावती चिन्ता ? = Why so much botheration ?
भवतः किं कष्टं अस्ति ? = Tell me, what your trouble is ?
न, एवं न भवितव्यं आसीत् । = No, it should not have happened.
अन्यथा न चिन्तयतु । = Don’t mistake / misunderstand.
मित्र मिलनम् ( Meeting the friends )
नमोनमः । = Good morning/afternoon/evening
किं भोः, दर्शनमेव नास्ति ! = Hello, didn’t see you for long !
न, अत्रैव सञ्चरामि किल ! = No, I have been moving about right here !
किं भोः, वार्ता एव नास्ति ? = Hello, not to be seen for a long time !
किं भोः, एकं पत्रं अपि नास्ति ? = Hey, You haven’t even written a letter !
वयं सर्वे विस्मृताः वा ? = You have forgotten us all, Haven’t you ?
कथं विस्मरणं भवति भोः ? = How can I forget you ?
भवतः सङ्केतं एव न जानामि स्म। = I didn’t know your address.
महाजनः संवृत्तः भवान् ! = you have become a big man !
भवान् एव वा ! दूरतः न ज्ञातम् । = Is it you ? I couldn’t recognise you from a distance.
ह्यः भवन्तं स्मृतवान् । = I remembered you yesterday.
किं अत्र आगमनम् ? = What made you come here ?
अत्रैव किञ्चित् कार्यं अस्ति । = I have some work here.
त्वरितं कार्यं आसीत् । अतः आगतवान् । = I am here as I have some urgent work.
बहुकालतः प्रतीक्षां करोमि । = I have been waiting for you for a long time.
यानं न प्राप्तं, अत एव विलम्बः । = Could not get the bus,hence late.
आगच्छतु भोः, गृहं गच्छामः । = Come, let us go home.
इदानीं वा, समयः नास्ति भोः । = Now? No time, you know.
श्वः सायं मिलामः वा ? = Shall we meet tomorrow evening ?
अवश्यं तत्रैव आगच्छामि । = I’ll come there without fail.
इदानीं कुत्र उद्योगः ? = Where do you work now ?
यन्त्राकारे उद्योगः । = I work in a factory.
ग्रामे अध्यापकः अस्मि । = I am a teacher in a village.
इदानीं कुत्र वासः ? = Where are you put up ?
एषः मम गृहसङ्केतः । = This is my address.
यानं आगतं, आगच्छामि । = Bus has come, bye, bye.
अस्तु, पुनः पश्यामः । = OK. Let us meet again.
पुनः अस्माकं मिलनं कदा ? = When shall we meet again ?
पुनः कदा मिलति भवान् ? = When are you going to meet me ? (again)
तद्दिने किमर्थं भवान् न आगतवान् ? = Why didn’t you come that day ?
वयं आगतवन्तः एव । = We have already arrived.
भवतः समीपे संभाषणीयं अस्ति । = I have something to talk to you about.
भवान् अन्यथा गृहीतवान् । = You have mistaken me.
भवन्तं बहु प्रतीक्षितवान् । = I very much expected you.
बहुकालतः तस्य वार्ता एव नास्ति । = No news from him for days.
भवतः पत्रं इदानीं एव लब्धम् । = I have just received your letter.
किञ्चिद्दूरं अहमपि आगच्छामि । = I will walk with you for some distance.
मिलित्वा गच्छामः । = Let us go together.
तिष्ठतु भोः, अर्धार्धं काफी पिबामः । Wait, let’s have a by-two [cutting] coffee
अस्तु, पिबामः । = Fine, let us have it.
स्थातुं समयः नास्ति । = No time to stay.
गमनात् अनुक्षणमेव पत्रं लिखतु । = Write as soon as you reach there.
पुनः कदाचित् पश्यामि । = Meet you again.
यदा कदा वा भवतु, अहं सिद्धः । = I am ready any day.
तेषां कृते मम शुभाशयान् निवेदयतु । = Convey my good wishes to them
किं भोः, एवं वदति ? = Hey, why do you say so ?
किञ्चित् कालं तिष्ठतु । = Please wait for some time.
भवान् एव परिशीलयतु । = Think about it, yourself.
अत्र पत्रालयः कुत्र अस्ति ? = Where is the post office, here ?
कियद्दूरे अस्ति ? = How far is it ?
वित्तकोषः कियद्दूरे अस्ति ? = How far is the bank ?
किमर्थं एवं त्वरा (संभ्रमः) ? = Why so much of confusion ?
इतोऽपि समयः अस्ति किल ? = There is still time, isn’t it ?
सर्वस्य अपि मितिः भवेत् । = There should be some limit for everything.
कियद् इति दातुं शक्यम् ? = How much can I give him ?
कस्मिन् समये प्रतीक्षणीयम् ? = When shall I expect ?
गृहे उपविश्य किं करोति ? = What are you going to do by sitting at home ?
भवतः परिचयः एव न लब्धः । = Could not recognize you.
किं भोः, बहु कृशः जातः ? = Hey, You have become very weak.
अवश्यं मम गृहम् आगन्तव्यम् । = Please do call on us.
सः सर्वत्र दर्वीं चालयति । = He pokes his nose everywhere.
यथा भवान् इच्छति । = I am game for whatever you say.
परिहासाय उक्तवान् भोः । = I said it in fun, You know.
एषः भवतः अपराधः न । = It is not your fault.
नैव, चिन्ता नास्ति । = No, no trouble/botheration.
वयं इदानीं अन्यद्गृहे स्मः । = We live in a different home now/Changed our residence.
भवान् मम अपेक्षया ज्येष्ठः वा ? = Are you elder to me ?
ओहो, मम अपेक्षया कनिष्ठः वा ? = Younger to me, is it ?
भवान् विवाहितः वा ? = Are you married ?
नैव, इदानीमपि एकाकी । = No, still a bachelor.
भवतः पिता कुत्र कार्यं करोति ? = Where does your father work ?
सः वर्षद्वयात् पूर्वमेव निवृत्तः । = He retired two years ago.
सः वृद्धः इव भाति । = He looks aged.
भवन्तः सर्वे सहैव वसन्ति वा ? = Do all of you live together ?
नैव, सर्वे विभक्ताः = No, we live separately.
भवतः वयः कियत् ? = How old are you ?
भवन्तः कति सहोदराः ? = How many brothers are you ?
वयं आहत्य अष्टजनाः । = We are eight.
भवान् एव ज्येष्ठः वा ? = Are you the eldest ?
मम एकः अग्रजः अस्ति । = I have an elder brother.
सः इदानीमपि बालः । = He is still a boy.
भवतः अनुजायाः कति वर्षाणि ? = How old is your younger sister ?
भवान् मा ददातु, मा स्वीकरोतु । = Neither give, nor take anything.
अन्यं कमपि न पृच्छतु । = Don’t ask anyone except me.
तर्हि सर्वं दायित्वं भवतः एव । = In that case the entire responsibility is yours.
सर्वत्र अग्रे सरति । = He takes the initiative in everything.
भवन्तं गृहे एव पश्यामि । = I will see you in your house.
सः निष्ठावान् । = He is very orthodox.
यावदहं प्रत्यागच्छामि, तावद् प्रतीक्षां करोतु । = Wait till I come.
द्वयोः एकः आगच्छतु । = Either of the two come.
तस्य कृते विषयः निवेदितः वा ? = Have you informed him about the news?
तस्य कृते सः अत्यन्तं प्रीतिपात्रम् । = He is closely related to him.

वृथा भवान् चिन्तां करोति । = You just worry unnecessarily.
दैवेच्छा तदा आसीत्, किं कुर्मः ? = It was God’s will. What shall we do ?
अहं अन्यद् उक्तवान्, भवान् अन्यद् गृहीतवान् । = I told you one thing. You understood it differently.
एतावद् अनृतं वदति इति न ज्ञातवान् । = I never expected that he lies so much.
प्रमादतः संवृत्तम्, न तु बुद्ध्या । = I did not do it purposely. It was just accidental.
एषः एकः शनिः । = This fellow is a bugbear.
भवदुक्तं सर्वमपि अङ्गीकर्तुं न शक्यम् । = I cannot agree with all you say.
अहं गन्तुं न शक्नोमि । = I cannot go.
विषयस्य वर्धनं मास्तु । = Don’t escalate the matter.
सर्वेऽपि पलायनशीलाः । = All these fellows take to their heels in the face of danger.
असम्बद्धं मा प्रलपतु । = Don’t talk foolishly.
सर्वस्य अपि भवान् एव मूलम् । = You are the root cause of all these.
सः सुलभेन तस्य जाले पतितवान् । = He fell into his trap easily.
अस्माकं मिलनानन्तरं बहु कालः अतीतः । = It is a long time since we met.
इदानीं आगन्तुं न शक्यते । = I cannot come now.
भवान् अपि अङ्गीकरोति वा ? = Do you agree ?
भवान् अपि विश्वासं कृतवान् ? = Did you believe that ?
सः विश्वासयोग्यो वा ? = Is he trustworthy ?
किञ्चित् साहाय्यं करोति वा ? = Would you mind helping me a bit ?
समयः कथं अतिशीघ्रं अतीतः ! = How quickly the time passed !
युक्ते समये आगतवान् । = You have come at the right time.
एक निमेषं विलम्बः चेत् अहं गच्छामि स्म । = I would have left if you were late by a minute.
अहमपि भवता सह आगच्छामि वा ? = Shall I come with you ?
किञ्चित् कालं द्विचक्रिकां ददाति वा ? = Would you mind, lending me your bicycle for a few minutes ?
इदानीं मया अपि अन्यत्र गन्तव्यम् । = I have to go somewhere now.
भवान् स्वकार्यं पश्यतु । You mind your business.
शीघ्रं प्रत्यागच्छामि । I’ll be back in a short while.
आवश्यकं चेत् श्वः आनयामि । If you want it, I shall bring it tomorow.
मास्तु इत्युक्तेऽपि सः न शृणोति । I said no,but he doesn’t listen to me.
प्रयाणम् ( Journey)
चीटिकां कुत्र क्रीणामि ? । = Where shall I buy a ticket ?
शीघ्रं आगच्छतु, यानं गच्छति । = Come quickly, the bus is about to start.
इदानीं एव एकं यानं गतम् । = A bus left just a few minutes ago.
अहं भवतः पार्श्वे उपविशामि । = I’ll sit beside you.
किञ्चित् समञ्जनं कुर्मः । = Let us adjust a bit.
महान् जनसम्मर्दः । = Terrible rush.
परिवर्तं ददातु । = Give me the change.
अग्रे गच्छतु । = Go forward.
कदा वा निर्गच्छति ? । = What time does it start ?
शीघ्रं अवतरतु । = Get off quickly.
अग्रिमं निस्थानं अस्माकं वा ? । = Is the next station ours ?
मल्लेश्वरयानस्य का संख्या ? । = Which bus (Route No.) goes to Malleswaram?
किंसंख्याकं यानं जयनगरं गच्छति ? । = Which bus goes to Jayanagar ?
फलकमपि नास्ति, किमपि नास्ति । = No signboard, nothing.
अये, पादपथे आगच्छतु । = Hey, walk on the footpath.
मल्लेश्वरं गन्तुं कः मार्गः ? । = Which is the way to Malleswaram ?
बहुदूरे अस्ति वा ? । = Is it very far ?
एषः सङ्केतः कुत्र इति जानाति वा ? । = Could you possibly tell me where this address/place is ?
इतः केवलं दशनिमेषाणां गमनम् । = It is just ten minutes walk from here.
यानं न लब्धम् । = Missed the bus.
यानस्य निर्गमनाय इतोऽपि अर्धघण्टा अस्ति । = It is still half an hour before the bus starts.
यानं दशवादने आगच्छति । = The bus arrives at 10 0’clock.
पञ्चवादने एकं यानं अस्ति । = There is a bus at 5 0’clock.
यानं तदानीं एव आगत्य स्थितम् । = Bus has already arrived at the platform.
आरक्षणं नास्ति । = No reservation, please.
एवमेव अग्रे गच्छन्तु । = Go just along this road.
अत्रैव कुत्रचित् स्यात्, अन्वेषणं कुर्मः । = It will be somewhere here. Let us search for it.
तत्रैव अस्ति । तत्रैव स्यात् । = It is there./It might be there.
अहं न जानामि, अन्यं पृच्छतु । = I don’t know, ask someone else, please.
भवान् शीघ्रं न गच्छति चेत् यानं न मिलति । = If you do not walk faster, you will miss the bus.
एषः मार्गः कुत्र गच्छति ? । = Where does this path lead to ?

परीक्षा ( Examination)
परीक्षारम्भः कदा इति ज्ञातः वा ? = Do you know when is the examination going to begin ?
प्रवेशपत्रं स्वीकृतं वा ? = Have you taken the admission ticket ?
परीक्षा अग्रे गता । = The examination is postponed.
वेलापत्रिका आगता वा ? = Has the examination time table come ?
परीक्षा कथं आसीत् ? = How was the exam. ?
प्रश्न पत्रिका किञ्चित् क्लिष्टा आसीत् = The question paper was a bit tough.
अतीव सुलभा आसीत् । = It was very easy.

ह्यः फलितांशः प्रकटितः । = The result was announced yesterday.
अङ्कद्वयेन प्रथमश्रेणी न लब्धा । = I missed I class by two marks.
प्रश्नेषु विकल्पः एव नासीत् । = There was no choice at all.

प्राचार्यस्य आदेशं दृष्टवान् वा ? = Have you seen the Principal’s memo (orders) ?

कदा आरभ्य अन्वयः ? = When does it come into effect ?
इदानीं कक्ष्या अस्ति वा ? = Do you have classes now ?
अद्य कक्ष्यां न स्वीकरोमि, इति सूचयतु । = Tell them, I am not going to take classes today.
प्राचार्यः आगतः वा ? = Has the Principal come ?
अस्मिन् मासे कति विरामः ? = How many holidays (are there) this month ?
परश्वः विरामः अस्ति वा ? = Is there a holiday, the day after ?
प्रश्नपत्रिका सज्जीकृता वा? = Is the question paper ready ?
अस्मिन् वर्षे फलितांशः कथम् ? = How is the result this year ?
एतावन्तः अङ्काः कथं लब्धाः इति ? = How did he manage to get such high marks ?
परीक्षकाणां औदार्यम् । = Examiners’ large heartedness.
परीक्षा अन्या, योग्यता अन्या ! = Examination is one thing, ability another.
मौल्यमापनार्थं गच्छति वा ? = Are you going for valuation ?

अस्वस्थः अपि आगतवान् । = I am here in spite of being ill.

गणितस्य अध्यापकः अस्ति वा पश्यतु । = See, if the mathematics teacher is there.
ते तु बालाः किल ! = After all they are students.
किं भोः सम्यक् पठति किल ! = You are studying well, aren’t you ?
संशयः अस्ति चेत् पृच्छन्तु ! = Ask if you have any doubts !
ज्ञातं किल ! = Understand !
पुनः एकवारं वदतु । = Beg your pardon (This means please repeat).
एकं अपि गणितं न कृतवान् वा ? = Haven’t you worked out a single sum ?
एवं चेत् परीक्षायां किं करोति ? = At this rate how are you going to face examination?
सेवकं किञ्चित् आह्वयतु । = Please call the peon.
घण्टा नादिता वा ? = Has the bell gone ?
टिप्पणीं लिखन्तु । = Please take the notes.
एकोऽपि न जानाति वा ? = Does not even one know the answer ?

कन्यायाः कृते किं किं आभरणं दास्यन्ति ? = What jewellery are they going to give the bride ?
मृत्तैलं लब्धं वा ? = Got kerosene ?
मृत्तैलं विक्रीयते इति श्रुतवती । = I heard, they are selling kerosene.
पाकः ( cooking)
पाकः समाप्तः वा ? = Finished cooking ?
अद्य कः पाकः ? = What cooked today ?
भोजनं अभवत् वा ? = Have you had lunch ?
भवत्याः गृहं कश्चिद् आगत इव । = It seems someone has come to your house.
अन्यत् किमपि नास्ति केवलं सारः । = Nothing ewxcept soup.

वेषभूषणानि ( Dress, jewellery)
भवत्याः शाटिका नूतना वा ? = Is your saree new ?
नैव, गतवर्षे एव क्रीतवती = No, it was brought last year.
तथापि नूतनं इव प्रतिभाति = Still it appears to be new.
एतादृशी शाटिका मम समीपे अपि अस्ति । = I have one saree like this.
अहं नूतनशाटिकां क्रीतवती = I have bought a new saree.
अञ्चलः बहु सम्यक् अस्ति । = The border is very beautiful.
इमां कुत्र क्रीतवती ? = Where did you buy this ?
अस्याः शाटिकायाः अनुरूपः चोलः न लब्धः । = I could not get a matching blouse for this saree.
वलयस्य विन्यासः आकर्षकः अस्ति । = The style of the bangles is really attractive.
शाटिकया सा प्रौढा इव दृश्यते । = This saree makes her look taller.
परिणाहः बहु न्यूनः । = Width is less.
अहं अपि एकां क्रेतुं इच्छामि । = I would like to buy one.
बहु सुन्दरं अस्ति किल एतद् ? = It is very good, isn’t it ?
भ्वत्याः एतद् युज्यते । = This suits you well.
कियद् दत्तवती । = How much did you pay ?
मुम्बईतः मम अग्रजः आनीतवान् । = Brother brought it from Bombay.
कार्यालयः ( Office)
भवान् कति दिनानि विरामं स्वीकरोति ? = How many days of leave are you taking ?

लवणं एव नास्ति । = No salt at all.
व्यञ्जने लवणं न्यूनम् । = This curry has no salt at all.
अन्नं बहु उष्णम् । = The rice is very hot.
तद् किञ्चित् परिवेषयतु । = Serve the other dish a bit more.

रोटिका अस्ति चेत् समीचीनं (अभविष्यत्) । = It would have been wonderful had there been ‘chapatis’.
किं भोः, भोजनमेव न करोति ? = Why dear, you do not eat anything ?
अन्ने केवलं पाषाणाः । = A lot of stones in the rice.
दध्यन्नं परिवेषयामि वा ? = Shall I serve curd-rice ?
तक्रं न इच्छति वा ? = Don’t you want buttermilk ?
भोजनं सम्यक् करोति चेत् क्रीडनकं ददामि । = Eat well, please. I will give a doll.
तेषां गृहे किं खादितवान् ? = What did you eat in their house ?
शीघ्रं भोजनं करोतु, विलम्बः अभवत् । = It is getting late, eat quickly.

किञ्चित् वा दध्यन्नस्य भोजनं करोतु । = Eat at least a little curd-rice.

अम्ब, बुबुक्षा भवति । = Mummy, I am hungry.
मम तु इदानीं अतीव बुबुक्षा । = I am very hungry.

किञ्चित् स्वीकरोतु । = Take a little.
मास्तु, अधिकं भवति । = No, thank you. It is too much for me.
परिवेषणार्थं कियान् विलम्बः ? = Dear, how long do you take to serve ?
यावद् रोचते तावदेव स्वीकरोतु । = Eat only what you can.
सर्वे मिलित्वा भोजनं कुर्मः । = Let us eat together.
अय्यो, घृतं एव न परिवेषितवती अहम्। = My goodness ! I haven’t served ghee at all.
भवता वक्तव्यं आसीत् किल ? = Shouldn’t you have told me that ?
कियान् विलम्बः भोः, शीघ्रं आगच्छतु । = How long do you take,come quickly.
सः इदानीं अपि न आगतवान् वा ? = Hasn’t he come yet ?
स्थालिका स्थापिता वा ? = Have you laid the table ? (Have you set the plates for meals ?)

सङ्कोचः मास्तु, आवश्यकं चेत् पृच्छतु । = Please feel at home. Ask for anything you want.
न, मम सङ्कोचः एव नास्ति । = No, I do not have any reservations.
किञ्चित् । = A little more.
अम्ब, अत्र किञ्चित् परिवेषयतु । = Mummy, get me some more.
कः लवणं आवश्यकं इति उक्तवान् ? = Who has asked for salt ?
