SEPTEMBER 11, 2019 : The Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed to hear a petition filed by one senior advocate Vikas Singh on behalf of activist K.N. Govindacharya.
The petitioner though not a party of the proceeding appeared through his lawyer before the Constitution Benching hearing Ayodhya Title dispute Appeal mentioned the matter by saying, that the Title appeal pertains to an issue of social and constitutional gravity. The petitioner further submitted that the result of the case will have greater social ramification, therefore to maintain transparency the hearing should be telecasted live.
The petitioner has reminded the Supreme Court of its own judgment of September 2018, which ordered live-streaming of hearings in momentous cases of national importance. The judgment is yet to be implemented.
The petitioner said “The Supreme Court has already held that sunlight is the best disinfectant. Live streaming as an extension of the principle of open courts will ensure that the interface between a court hearing with virtual reality will result in the dissemination of information in the widest possible sense, imparting transparency and accountability to the judicial process,” the petition said.
The petitioner further submitted that the Title Dispute has been pending for long nine years and the public at large want to know about the delay and day by day proceeding before the Bench.
