Cancellation of General Holiday on August 15 in Bangladesh

The general holiday on August 15, declared on the occasion of the National Mourning Day (เฆœเฆพเฆคเง€เฆฏเฆผ เฆถเง‹เฆ• เฆฆเฆฟเฆฌเฆธ) in Bangladesh, has been canceled. This decision was made at the meeting of the advisory council of the interim government headed by Muhammad Yunus (84). The meeting, which took place at Rashtriya Guest House Yamuna, approved the cancellation based on broad consensus in the dialogue of the political parties with the Advisory Council.

This decision comes after a series of meetings held by the interim government led by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, following the resignation of Sheikh Hasina’s government on 5th August 2024. The interim government, comprising 17 members including the chief advisor, has been engaging in discussions with various political parties, including BNP-Jamaat, Democratic Manch, CPB, Basad, Jatiya Mukti Council, AB Party, Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP), and Gana Odhikar Parishad, to address the observance of August 15 as a national day of mourning.
