5th India-Maldives Defence Cooperation Dialogue held in New Delhi

India-Maldives Dialogue: The 5th Defence Cooperation Dialogue between India and the Maldives took place in New Delhi on September 06, 2024. The Indian delegation was led by Defence Secretary Shri Giridhar Aramane, while the Maldivian delegation was headed by Chief of Defence Force, Maldives National Defence Force General Ibrahim Hilmy. The dialogue centered on strengthening bilateral ties and cooperation in various defense-related areas such as maritime security, joint military exercises, and strategic defense partnerships. Both delegations discussed the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the Indian Ocean region and reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing mutual trust and collaboration. Additionally, they explored opportunities for sharing expertise in counterterrorism efforts, disaster relief, and cybersecurity, aiming to elevate the defense relations between the two countries to new heights.
The meeting provided both sides with an invaluable opportunity to engage in comprehensive discussions regarding the matters related to bilateral defence cooperation. This included not only expediting the implementation of various ongoing defence cooperation projects, but also exploring new avenues for collaboration in the form of joint military exercises, exchange programs, and technology transfer initiatives. It was a productive session that further strengthened the foundation for a mutually beneficial and enduring defence partnership between the two nations.
The two sides also deliberated on a few other areas of common interest such as high-level exchanges, including potential visits by senior officials and leaders from both countries to enhance cooperation and understanding. Additionally, they discussed the scope for joint capability development projects in the fields of defense, technology, and infrastructure. Furthermore, the aspects of participation in forthcoming bilateral military exercises, including the exchange of best practices, expertise, and logistical support, were also thoroughly examined. The constructive and comprehensive range of talks was productive, laying the groundwork for a deeper and more strategic partnership, which will advance the shared interests of both the nations in the near future. This collaboration is poised to bring stability, security, and prosperity in the Indian Ocean Region, fostering a peaceful and thriving environment for all stakeholders.
