Tehran and Moscow finalize plans to build small reactors under a new nuclear cooperation agreement.
Iran is preparing to sign a contract with Russia soon for the construction of small nuclear power plants, according to Mohammad Eslami, Iranian Vice President and Head of the Atomic Energy Organization. He confirmed that the site for the project has already been identified. Eslami explained that this agreement covers small reactors that were not included in the main intergovernmental agreement signed in 1992.
He noted that a memorandum was signed in Russia and expressed hope that the main contract between the two countries would be finalized in the coming days. The implementation plan has already been agreed upon with the relevant company.
On September 24, Russiaโs state nuclear corporation Rosatom announced that delegations from both countries had signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation for constructing small nuclear power plants in Iran. The document outlines specific steps to advance this strategic project, marking another significant development in Iranโs civil nuclear program and its ongoing partnership with Russia in the nuclear energy sector.
