English Translation of Prime Minister’s Remarks at the G20 Session on Sustainable Development and Energy Transition at Brazil

Excellencies,

नमस्कार !

The theme of today’s session is very relevant, and is closely linked to the future of the next generation. During the New Delhi G-20 summit, we had adopted the Varanasi Action plan to accelerate achievement of the SDGs.

We had resolved to triple renewable energy production, and to double the energy efficiency rate by 2030 Under Brazil’s presidency, priority has been accorded to the implementation of these goals, and we welcome this.

In this regard, I would like to present to you India’s commitments and efforts to achieve the Sustainable development agenda. Over the last one decade, we have built homes for more than 40 million families.

Over the last 5 years, Clean water supply has been ensured for 120 million homes. More than 100 million families have been provided with clean cooking fuel And toilets have been made for over 115 million families.

Our efforts are based on traditional indian thought which is both progressive and balanced. A belief system in which the earth is considered mother, rivers, Givers of life, and trees are considered godlike.

We believe that taking care of nature is our moral and fundamental duty. India is the first G-20 country to have fulfilled the commitments it made under the Paris agreement, ahead of time.

Now we are rapidly moving towards more ambitious goals. We had set ourselves the target of achieving 500 Gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030. We have already achieved 200 Gigawatts of that.

We have made Green transition a people’s movement. Approximately 10 million families have registered for the worlds biggest solar roof top program.

And we are not just thinking about ourselves. We have in mind the interests of all mankind. In order to promote a sustainable lifestyle at a global level, we launched Mission Life or Lifestyle for the environment. Food waste not only increases carbon footprint, it also increases hunger. We have to work on this concern also.

We launched the International Solar Alliance. Over 100 countries have joined it. Under the “One Sun One World One Grid” initiative we are cooperating on energy connectivity.

India has set up a Green Hydrogen innovation center and launched a Global Biofuel Alliance We are also running an extensive waste to energy campaign in India’ In order to address challenges related to critical minerals we have focused on a circular approach.

Under the campaign, One tree for mother, we have planted about a billion trees in India this year. India launched the Coalition for Disaster resilient infrastructure initiative. Under this, we are now also focusing on Post-Disaster Recovery and Reconstruction.

Friends,

Economic development is a priority for countries of the Global south, and in particular, for Small Island Developing States. In the digital age, and given the growing influence of AI, the need for a balanced and appropriate energy mix becomes all the more important.

Therefore affordable and assured climate finance for energy transition in the Global south, has become even more important. It is also essential for developed countries to fulfill their commitments to provide technology and finance, in a timely manner.

India is sharing its successful experiences with all friendly countries, in particular with the Global south. To this end, during the 3rd Global south summit, we had also announced a Global Development Compact I urge all of you to join us in this initiative and partner with us in our efforts.

नमस्कार !

आज के session की थीम बहुत प्रासंगिक है, हमारी भावी पीढ़ी के भविष्य से जुड़ी है। नयी दिल्ली G-20 समिट के दौरान, हमनें SDGs को गति देने के लिए वाराणसी Action प्लान अपनाया था। 2030 तक Renewable एनर्जी को तीन गुना और energy efficiency rate को दो गुना करने का संकल्प लिया था। ब्राजील की अध्यक्षता में इनको लागू करने को प्राथमिकता दी गई है। हम इसका स्वागत करते हैं। इस संबंध में, Sustainable Development Agenda के प्रति भारत की प्रतिबद्धता और प्रयासों को आपके समक्ष रखना चाहता हूँ।

पिछले एक दशक में, भारत में 4 करोड़ से अधिक परिवारों को घर उपलब्ध कराया गया है। पिछले पाँच सालों में, 12 करोड़ से अधिक घरों तक साफ पानी पहुंचाया गया है। 10 करोड़ से ज्यादा परिवारों को स्वच्छ रसोई ईंधन उपलब्ध कराया गया है। और 11.5 करोड़ से ज्यादा परिवारों के लिए शौचालय बनाए गए हैं।

हमारे प्रयास भारत के लोगों की प्रगतिशील सोच और संतुलित परंपरा पर आधारित हैं। जहां धरती को माँ, नदियों को जीवनदायिनी और वृक्षों को देवतुल्य माना जाता है। प्रकृति की देखभाल को हम नैतिक और मौलिक कर्तव्य मानते हैं। भारत पहला G-20 देश है, जिसने Paris एग्रीमेंट के तहत दिए गए commitments को समय से पहले पूरा किया है। अब हम और अधिक महत्वाकांक्षी लक्ष्यों की ओर तेजी से अग्रसर हैं। 2030 तक 500 गीगावाट renewable energy के लक्ष्य में से 200 गीगावाट पूरा हो गया है। ग्रीन ट्रांजिशन को जन अभियान का रूप दिया गया है।

लगभग 10 मिलियन परिवार, विश्व की सबसे बड़े सोलर रूफ टॉप प्रोग्राम से जुड़े हैं। हमारी सोच केवल अपने तक सीमित नहीं है, हम पूरी मानवता के हितों के बारे में सोचते हैं। वैश्विक स्तर पर ‘सस्टेनेबल जीवनशैली’ को बढ़ावा देने के लिए “मिशन LiFE” यानि Lifestyle For Environment लॉन्च किया है।

फ़ूड waste कार्बन फुट प्रिंट का तो कारण है ही, यह Hunger को भी बढ़ाता है । हमे इस चिंता पर भी काम करना होगा।हमने International Solar अलायन्स की शुरुआत की है। 100 से अधिक देश इससे जुड़े हैं। “One Sun One World One Grid” पहल के तहत, हम energy कनेक्टिविटी पर सहयोग कर रहे हैं। भारत ने ग्रीन Hydrogen इनोवेशन सेंटर और Global Biofuel Alliance लॉन्च किया है। हम भारत में एक व्यापक waste-to-energy अभियान भी चला रहे हैं।

हमने क्रिटिकल मिनरल्स से संबंधित चुनौतियों से निपटने के लिए circular approach पर बल दिया है। “एक पेड़ मां के नाम” अभियान के तहत, हमने इस वर्ष भारत में लगभग 1 बिलियन पेड़ लगाए हैं। भारत ने Coalition for Disasters resilient इंफ्रास्ट्रक्चर की पहल की है। इसके तहत अब Post-Disaster Recovery और Reconstruction पर भी बल दिया जा रहा है ।

ग्लोबल साउथ के देशों, विशेष रूप से Small Island Developing States के लिए, आर्थिक विकास उनकी प्राथमिकता है। डिजिटल युग और AI के बढ़ते प्रभाव के साथ, एक संतुलित और उपयुक्त ऊर्जा मिश्रण की आवश्यकता और भी अहम हो जाती है । ऐसे में, ग्लोबल साउथ को Energy ट्रांजिशन के लिए affordable और assured climate finance का महत्व बढ़ गया है। टेक्नॉलॉजी और फाइनेंस उपलब्ध कराने के विकसित देशों के commitments को समय पर पूरा किया जाना भी आवश्यक है।

भारत अपने सफल अनुभवों को सभी साथी देशों के साथ, विशेष रूप से Global South के साथ, साझा कर रहा है। इस दिशा में, तीसरी ग्लोबल साउथ समिट में हमने Global Development Compact की घोषणा भी की है। मैं आप सबका, हमारी पहल और प्रयास से जुड़ने का आह्वान करता हूँ।
