The maiden Joint Commanders’ Conference, held in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, marks a significant milestone in the evolution of India’s defense strategy. The two-day conference, presided over by Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh, provided a crucial platform for high-level strategic discussions and policy formulation. With the theme ‘Sashakt aur Surakshit Bharat: Transforming the Armed Forces’, the conference underscored the pressing need to modernize and strengthen the Armed Forces to safeguard the nation’s interests. This emphasis on transformation aligns with India’s commitment to building a robust and secure defense infrastructure capable of addressing contemporary and future challenges. The conference deliberations encompassed a wide array of topics, including technological advancements, force readiness, international collaborations, and the welfare of military personnel, reflecting the comprehensive approach towards fortifying India’s defense capabilities.
During the conference, Shri Rajnath Singh commended the Armed Forces for their indispensable contribution to safeguarding national interests and advancing the vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’. Emphasizing India’s stance as a peace-loving nation, he stressed the necessity for the Armed Forces to be prepared for war in order to preserve peace. Furthermore, he highlighted the need for modernization and strategic alliances to counter emerging threats and uphold the sovereignty of the nation. He also underscored the importance of training and equipping the Armed Forces with cutting-edge technology to effectively address evolving security challenges. Moreover, he called for a unified approach among the military branches to foster seamless coordination and synergy, ensuring a robust defense posture against any potential adversary.
The Raksha Mantri emphasized the importance of strategic foresight and proactive measures in response to the evolving geopolitical landscape. He stressed the significance of not only addressing immediate challenges along the Northern border and in neighboring countries, but also of anticipating and preparing for potential future scenarios. He also highlighted the importance of utilizing the latest technological advancements in data and artificial intelligence, indicating their substantial influence on the course of warfare.

In addition to discussing theaterisation, indigenisation, and technological developments, the forum also examined the evolving role of artificial intelligence, unmanned systems, and asymmetric warfare.
