Steve Gupta, an attorney, appeals pro se from the district court’s summary judgment in favor of defendants in his action under the Freedom of Information Act, 5 U.S.C. § 552, et seq. (“FOIA”), seeking documents about Rahul Gandhi’s alleged detention at Logan Airport in September 2001. We have jurisdiction under 28 U.S.C. § 1291.
সংবাদ আসিয়াছে, মহাত্মা গান্ধী কংগ্রেসের নেতৃত্ব পরিত্যাগ করিয়াছেন। খবরটা আকস্মিক নয়। কিছুদিন যাবৎ এমন একটা সম্ভাবনা বাতাসে ভাসিতেছিল, মহাত্মা রাজনীতির প্রবাহ হইতে আপনাকে অপস্থত করিয়া স্বী বিশাল ব্যক্তিত্ব, বিরাট কৰ্ম্মশক্তি ও একাগ্রচিত্ত ভারতের আর্থিক, নৈতিক ও সামাজিক সমস্তার সমাধানে নিয়োজিত করিবেন। তাহাই হইয়াছে। দেখা গেল, জাতীয় মহাসমিতির সভামণ্ডপে বহু কৰ্মী, বহু ভক্ত, বহু বন্ধুজনের আবেদন-নিবেদন অনুনয়-বিনয় তাহাকে সঙ্কল্পচু্যত করিতে পারে নাই। পারার কথাও নয়। বহুবার বহু বিষয়েই প্রমাণিত হইয়াছে, অশ্রুধারার প্রবলতা দিয়া কোনদিন মহাত্মাঙ্গীকে বিচলিত করা যায় না। কারণ, তার নিজের যুক্তি ও বৃদ্ধির বড় সংসারে আর কিছু আছে, বোধ হয় তিনি ভাবিতেই পারেন না। কিন্তু তাই বলিয়া এই কথাই বলি না, এ বৃদ্ধি সামান্ত বা সাধারণ।

I visited the Vishwanath temple last evening, and I was walking through those lanes, these were the thoughts that touched me. If a stranger dropped from above on to this great temple, and he had to consider what we as Hindus were, would he not be justified in condemning us? Is not this great temple a reflection of our own character? I speak feelingly, as a Hindu. Is it right that the lanes of our sacred temple should be as dirty as they are? The houses round about are built anyhow. The lanes are tortuous and narrow. If even our temples are not models of roominess and cleanliness, what can our self-government be? Shall our temples be abodes of holiness, cleanliness and peace as soon as the English have retired from India, either of their own pleasure or by compulsion, bag and baggage?
પશ્ચિમના દેશમાં સાધારણ રીતે એમ માનવામાં આવે છે કે વધારે માણસનું (મૅજોરિટીનું) સુખ – તેઓનો ઉદય – એ વધારવાનું માણસનું કામ છે. સુખ એટલે માત્ર શારીરિક સુખ, પૈસાટકાનું સુખ, એવો અર્થ કરવામાં આવે છે. એવું સુખ મેળવવામાં નીતિના નિયમોનો ભંગ થાય તેની ખાસ દરકાર કરવામાં આવતી નથી. તેમ જ વધારે માણસોનું સુખ જાળવવું એવો હેતુ રાખ્યો છે, તેથી જો થોડાને દુઃખ દઈને વધારેને સુખ અપાય તો તેમ કરવામાં હરકત છે એમ પશ્ચિમના લોકો માનતા નથી. એવું માનતા નથી તેનું પરિણામ આપણે પશ્ચિમના બધા મુલકોમાં જોઈએ છીએ.
The Mahomedans started the Khilafat movement in 1919. The objective of the movement was two-fold: to preserve the Khilafat and to maintain the integrity of the Turkish Empire. Both these objectives were unsupportable. The Khilafat could not be saved simply because the Turks, in whose interest this agitation was carried on, did not want the Sultan.
He had barely covered six or seven steps when a person whose name I learnt later as Narayan Vinayak Godse, resident of Poona, stepped closer and fired three shots from a pistol at the Mahatma from barely 2 / 3 feet distance which hit the Mahatma in his stomach and chest and blood started flowing. Mahatma ji fell backwards, uttering “Raam – Raam”. The assailant was apprehended on the spot with the weapon.
