“হাওর জঙ্গল মইষের শিং, এই তিনে ময়মনসিং”
Mymansingha, the name is derived from the Mymensingh Pargana It is probable, that the choice of name was accidental, in that Mymensingh was the first of the Parganas in the list “ Mymensingh Pargana Digar,” which were separated from Dacca under a Company Collector of their own in 1787. When the zamindars of the area of Mymensingh were requested to give the name of the district to Mymensingh, the government accepted it. Possibly the name derived like thus মইষের শিং > ময়মনসিং.
Mymensingh is bounded by no less than eight districts, the Garo Hills, Dhubri, Rangpur, Bogra, Pabna, Dacca, Tippera and Sylhet. On the west the district is bounded by the main channel of the Brahmaputra, known as the Jamuna, On the north it is bounded by the Garo Hills, and on the east by Sylhet and Tippera. Most part the boundary is marked by small streams, and then towards the south by the Meghna.
Bhairab Bazar, where the old channel of the Brahmaputra meets the Meghna, is in the extreme south-east corner of the district. On the south the boundary is artificial.
After the death of Sirajuddaula, the resulting anarchy led to the English Company making themselves responsible in 1765 for the revenues and civil administration of Bengal. Mahamad Beza Khan was the Deputy Dewan under the Company in Murshidabad, and at their instigation, Jasarat Ehan was appointed Naib Nazim in Dacca.
The names of parganas are available in Mymensingh region in different sources- Mymensingh, Alapsingh, Jafar Shahi, Banwowal, Puthuria, Kagmari, Antia, Bara Baju, Serpur, Hazbadi, Khalijuri, Jayan Shahi, Kharijhi, Narsrat Shahi, Latifpur, Macmabad, Atgaon, Ballarampur, Barikandi, Bau Khand, Chandrapatap, Eidgah, Ichkabad, Bai Dome, Singda Targibaj, Kasempur, Nikhli, Sasadi, Hauli, Jakujiyal, Ichapur, Bardakhati, Patilah Dah, Tundar, Ichpasah Hossain Shahi, Hossainpur, Susang and Nasirurjiyala.

সুখে ছিলাম ভালোই ছিলাম
বাপ ও মায়ের ঘরেতে
বড় আশায় দিছি গো মালা
আমি তোমার গলেতে ।
শুন ওগো প্রাণবন্ধুয়া
সুখের নহর যায় গো হিয়া
সোনার ফসল আবাদ করি
পরান ভরিয়া ।।

বিয়ের গান
‘মাথা ভালা দামান্দের ডাব নাইরকল জোরারে
কমর ভালা দামান্দের হুন্দি বেতের মুড়ারে।
দামান্দেরো সাত ভাই সাত ঘোড়ার সুয়ারি
একেলা দামানরাজা যাইতা শ্বশুরবাড়ি’

গাজীর গান
পূবেতে বন্দনা করি পূবের ভানুশ্বর।
তারপরে বন্দনা করি গাজী দয়াবান।
তার উদ্দেশে জানায় ছালাম হেন্দু মোছলমান’
গাজী বলে মোকদ্দমা ফতে হয়ে যাবে
