The Calcutta High Court Bar Association has staged a boycott of all judicial proceedings in response to the reported assault of advocate Sourav Mandal by sub-inspector Sudipto Sanyal at the Nepalgunj police outpost. In a letter to the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court, Bar Association Secretary Shankar Prasad Dalapati highlighted the alleged assault and subsequent false cases and threats against Mandal.
The association’s decision to boycott the court was confirmed after a meeting held on Monday, resulting in the absence of approximately 90% of the High Court’s lawyers. The quiet atmosphere in the courtrooms on the first day of the week, coupled with the postponement of post-lunch court sessions, reflected the impact of the bar association’s resolution.
