Critical Commentary on Atharva Veda

Atharva Veda Shunak Samhita emphasizes the transformative power of mantras and their role as instruments of knowledge rather than knowledge itself. The text highlights a prayer to divine powers for strength and eloquence. It delves into philosophical inquiries about the nature of knowledge: whether the knower and knowledge are distinct or one. Mantras serve as both carriers of duality and means to transcend it. The collection, attributed to sage Sunak, comprises 5,977 mantras across 20 books. The term "Atharva" signifies an unchanging essence and relates to the ancient understanding of Brahman. Discussions on these themes scaffold the exploration of the Atharva Veda.
