بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
- الٓمٓ
- ذَٰلِكَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبُ لَا رَيۡبَۛ فِيهِۛ هُدٗى لِّلۡمُتَّقِينَ
- ٱلَّذِينَ يُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱلۡغَيۡبِ وَيُقِيمُونَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَمِمَّا رَزَقۡنَٰهُمۡ يُنفِقُونَ
- وَٱلَّذِينَ يُؤۡمِنُونَ بِمَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيۡكَ وَمَآ أُنزِلَ مِن قَبۡلِكَ وَبِٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ هُمۡ يُوقِنُونَ
- أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ عَلَىٰ هُدٗى مِّن رَّبِّهِمۡۖ وَأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ
- إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ سَوَآءٌ عَلَيۡهِمۡ ءَأَنذَرۡتَهُمۡ أَمۡ لَمۡ تُنذِرۡهُمۡ لَا يُؤۡمِنُونَ
- خَتَمَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمۡ وَعَلَىٰ سَمۡعِهِمۡۖ وَعَلَىٰٓ أَبۡصَٰرِهِمۡ غِشَٰوَةٞۖ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٞ
- وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ مَن يَقُولُ ءَامَنَّا بِٱللَّهِ وَبِٱلۡيَوۡمِ ٱلۡأٓخِرِ وَمَا هُم بِمُؤۡمِنِينَ
- يُخَٰدِعُونَ ٱللَّهَ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَمَا يَخۡدَعُونَ إِلَّآ أَنفُسَهُمۡ وَمَا يَشۡعُرُونَ
- فِي قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٞ فَزَادَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ مَرَضٗاۖ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمُۢ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَكۡذِبُونَ
- وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمۡ لَا تُفۡسِدُواْ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّمَا نَحۡنُ مُصۡلِحُونَ
- أَلَآ إِنَّهُمۡ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡسِدُونَ وَلَٰكِن لَّا يَشۡعُرُونَ
- وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمۡ ءَامِنُواْ كَمَآ ءَامَنَ ٱلنَّاسُ قَالُوٓاْ أَنُؤۡمِنُ كَمَآ ءَامَنَ ٱلسُّفَهَآءُۗ أَلَآ إِنَّهُمۡ هُمُ ٱلسُّفَهَآءُ وَلَٰكِن لَّا يَعۡلَمُونَ
- وَإِذَا لَقُواْ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ قَالُوٓاْ ءَامَنَّا وَإِذَا خَلَوۡاْ إِلَىٰ شَيَٰطِينِهِمۡ قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّا مَعَكُمۡ إِنَّمَا نَحۡنُ مُسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ
- ٱللَّهُ يَسۡتَهۡزِئُ بِهِمۡ وَيَمُدُّهُمۡ فِي طُغۡيَٰنِهِمۡ يَعۡمَهُونَ
English Transliteration with Meaning Word by Word:
Bismillāhi (In the name of Allah) Ar-Raḥmāni (The Most Gracious) Ar-Raḥīmi (The Most Merciful).
(2:1) Alif-Lam-Meem
(الٓمٓ)
Alif (A) – Lam (L) – Meem (M)
God is the beginning, the middle and the end.
(2:2) Dhaalika al-kitaabu laa rayba feehi hudan lil-muttaqeen
(ذَٰلِكَ ٱلۡكِتَٰبُ لَا رَيۡبَۛ فِيهِۛ هُدٗى لِّلۡمُتَّقِينَ)
- Dhaalika (ذَٰلِكَ): That
- al-kitaabu (ٱلۡكِتَٰبُ): the Book
- laa (لَا): no
- rayba (رَيۡبَ): doubt
- feehi (فِيهِ): in it
- hudan (هُدٗى): guidance
- lil-muttaqeen (لِّلۡمُتَّقِينَ): for the God-conscious/pious
(2:3) Alladheena yu’minoona bil-ghaybi wa yuqimoona as-salata wa mimma razaqnaahum yunfiqoon
(ٱلَّذِينَ يُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱلۡغَيۡبِ وَيُقِيمُونَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَمِمَّا رَزَقۡنَٰهُمۡ يُنفِقُونَ)
- Alladheena (ٱلَّذِينَ): Those who
- yu’minoona (يُؤۡمِنُونَ): believe
- bil-ghaybi (بِٱلۡغَيۡبِ): in the unseen
- wa (وَ): and
- yuqimoona (يُقِيمُونَ): establish
- as-salata (ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ): the prayer
- wa (وَ): and
- mimma (مِمَّا): from what
- razaqnaahum (رَزَقۡنَٰهُمۡ): We have provided them
- yunfiqoon (يُنفِقُونَ): they spend
(2:4) Walladheena yu’minoona bimaa unzila ilayka wa maa unzila min qablika wa bil-aakhirati hum yooqinoon
(وَٱلَّذِينَ يُؤۡمِنُونَ بِمَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيۡكَ وَمَآ أُنزِلَ مِن قَبۡلِكَ وَبِٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ هُمۡ يُوقِنُونَ)
- Walladheena (وَٱلَّذِينَ): And those who
- yu’minoona (يُؤۡمِنُونَ): believe
- bimaa (بِمَآ): in what
- unzila (أُنزِلَ): was revealed
- ilayka (إِلَيۡكَ): to you
- wa (وَ): and
- maa (مَآ): what
- unzila (أُنزِلَ): was revealed
- min (مِن): before
- qablika (قَبۡلِكَ): you
- wa (وَ): and
- bil-aakhirati (بِٱلۡأٓخِرَةِ): in the Hereafter
- hum (هُمۡ): they
- yooqinoon (يُوقِنُونَ): are certain
(2:5) Ulaa’ika ‘alaa hudan min rabbihim wa ulaa’ika humul muflihoon
(أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ عَلَىٰ هُدٗى مِّن رَّبِّهِمۡۖ وَأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ)
- Ulaa’ika (أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ): They
- ‘alaa (عَلَىٰ): are upon
- hudan (هُدٗى): guidance
- min (مِن): from
- rabbihim (رَّبِّهِمۡ): their Lord
- wa (وَ): and
- ulaa’ika (أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ): they
- humul (هُمُ): they
- muflihoon (ٱلۡمُفۡلِحُونَ): are successful
(2:6) Inna alladheena kafaroo sawaa’un ‘alayhim a-anzartahum am lam tunzirhum laa yu’minoon
(إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ سَوَآءٌ عَلَيۡهِمۡ ءَأَنذَرۡتَهُمۡ أَمۡ لَمۡ تُنذِرۡهُمۡ لَا يُؤۡمِنُونَ)
- Inna (إِنَّ): Indeed
- alladheena (ٱلَّذِينَ): those who
- kafaroo (كَفَرُواْ): disbelieve
- sawaa’un (سَوَآءٌ): it is the same
- ‘alayhim (عَلَيۡهِمۡ): for them
- a-anzartahum (ءَأَنذَرۡتَهُمۡ): whether you warn them
- am (أَمۡ): or
- lam (لَمۡ): not
- tunzirhum (تُنذِرۡهُمۡ): warn them
- laa (لَا): they will not
- yu’minoon (يُؤۡمِنُونَ): believe
(2:7) Khatama Allahu ‘ala quloobihim wa ‘ala sam’ihim wa ‘ala absarihim ghishawatun wa lahum ‘adhabun ‘azheem
(خَتَمَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمۡ وَعَلَىٰ سَمۡعِهِمۡۖ وَعَلَىٰٓ أَبۡصَٰرِهِمۡ غِشَٰوَةٞۖ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٞ)
- Khatama (خَتَمَ): Has sealed
- Allahu (ٱللَّهُ): Allah
- ‘ala (عَلَىٰ): upon
- quloobihim (قُلُوبِهِمۡ): their hearts
- wa (وَ): and
- ‘ala (عَلَىٰ): upon
- sam’ihim (سَمۡعِهِمۡ): their hearing
- wa (وَ): and
- ‘ala (عَلَىٰٓ): upon
- absarihim (أَبۡصَٰرِهِمۡ): their vision
- ghishawatun (غِشَٰوَةٞ): is a veil
- wa (وَ): and
- lahum (لَهُمۡ): for them
- ‘adhabun (عَذَابٌ): punishment
- ‘azheem (عَظِيمٞ): great
(2:8) Wa minan-naasi man yaqoolu aamannaa billaahi wa bil-yawmil-aakhiri wa maa hum bimu’mineen
(وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ مَن يَقُولُ ءَامَنَّا بِٱللَّهِ وَبِٱلۡيَوۡمِ ٱلۡأٓخِرِ وَمَا هُم بِمُؤۡمِنِينَ)
- Wa (وَ): And
- minan-naasi (مِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ): of the people
- man (مَن): there are some who
- yaqoolu (يَقُولُ): say
- aamannaa (ءَامَنَّا): we believe
- billaahi (بِٱللَّهِ): in Allah
- wa (وَ): and
- bil-yawmil-aakhiri (بِٱلۡيَوۡمِ ٱلۡأٓخِرِ): in the Last Day
- wa (وَ): but
- maa (مَا): not
- hum (هُم): they
- bimu’mineen (بِمُؤۡمِنِينَ): are believers
(2:9) Yukhadi’oona Allaha walladheena aamanoo wa maa yakhda’oona illaaa anfusahum wa maa yash’uroon
(يُخَٰدِعُونَ ٱللَّهَ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَمَا يَخۡدَعُونَ إِلَّآ أَنفُسَهُمۡ وَمَا يَشۡعُرُونَ)
- Yukhadi’oona (يُخَٰدِعُونَ): They deceive
- Allaha (ٱللَّهَ): Allah
- walladheena (وَٱلَّذِينَ): and those who
- aamanoo (ءَامَنُواْ): believe
- wa (وَ): but
- maa (مَا): not
- yakhda’oona (يَخۡدَعُونَ): they deceive
- illaaa (إِلَّآ): except
- anfusahum (أَنفُسَهُمۡ): themselves
- wa (وَ): and
- maa (مَا): not
- yash’uroon (يَشۡعُرُونَ): they perceive
(2:10) Fee quloobihim maradun fazaadahumullahu maradan wa lahum ‘adhaabun aleemun bimaa kanoo yakdhiboon
(فِي قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٞ فَزَادَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ مَرَضٗاۖ وَلَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمُۢ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَكۡذِبُونَ)
- Fee (فِي): In
- quloobihim (قُلُوبِهِم): their hearts
- maradun (مَّرَضٞ): is a disease
- fazadahumullahu (فَزَادَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ): so Allah increased them
- maradan (مَرَضٗا): in disease
- wa (وَ): and
- lahum (لَهُمۡ): for them
- ‘adhaabun (عَذَابٌ): is a punishment
- aleemun (أَلِيمُۢ): painful
- bimaa (بِمَا): because of what
- kanoo (كَانُواْ): they used to
- yakdhiboon (يَكۡذِبُونَ): lie
(2:11) Wa idha qeela lahum laa tufsidoo fil-ardi qaaloo innamaa nahnu muslihoon
(وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمۡ لَا تُفۡسِدُواْ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّمَا نَحۡنُ مُصۡلِحُونَ)
- Wa (وَ): And
- idha (إِذَا): when
- qeela (قِيلَ): it is said
- lahum (لَهُمۡ): to them
- laa (لَا): do not
- tufsidoo (تُفۡسِدُواْ): cause corruption
- fil-ardi (فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ): on the earth
- qaaloo (قَالُوٓاْ): they say
- innamaa (إِنَّمَا): indeed
- nahnu (نَحۡنُ): we
- muslihoon (مُصۡلِحُونَ): are reformers
(2:12) Ala innahum humul mufsiduna wa laakin laa yash’uroon
(أَلَآ إِنَّهُمۡ هُمُ ٱلۡمُفۡسِدُونَ وَلَٰكِن لَّا يَشۡعُرُونَ)
- Ala (أَلَآ): Beware!
- innahum (إِنَّهُمۡ): Indeed, they
- hum (هُمُ): they
- al-mufsiduna (ٱلۡمُفۡسِدُونَ): are the corrupters
- wa (وَ): but
- laa (لَّا): they do not
- yash’uroon (يَشۡعُرُونَ): perceive
(2:13) Wa idha qeela lahum aaminoo kamaa aamana an-naasu qaloo anu’minu kamaa aamanas-sufahaa; alaa innahum humus-sufahaa’u wa laakin laa ya’lamoon
(وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمۡ ءَامِنُواْ كَمَآ ءَامَنَ ٱلنَّاسُ قَالُوٓاْ أَنُؤۡمِنُ كَمَآ ءَامَنَ ٱلسُّفَهَآءُۗ أَلَآ إِنَّهُمۡ هُمُ ٱلسُّفَهَآءُ وَلَٰكِن لَّا يَعۡلَمُونَ)
- Wa (وَ): And
- idha (إِذَا): when
- qeela (قِيلَ): it is said
- lahum (لَهُمۡ): to them
- aaminoo (ءَامِنُواْ): believe
- kamaa (كَمَآ): as
- aamana (ءَامَنَ): believed
- an-naasu (ٱلنَّاسُ): the people
- qaloo (قَالُوٓاْ): they say
- anu’minu (أَنُؤۡمِنُ): shall we believe
- kamaa (كَمَآ): as
- aamanas-sufahaa (ءَامَنَ ٱلسُّفَهَآءُ): the fools believe
- alaa (أَلَآ): Beware!
- innahum (إِنَّهُمۡ): Indeed, they
- hum (هُمُ): they
- as-sufahaa’u (ٱلسُّفَهَآءُ): are the fools
- wa (وَ): but
- laa (لَّا): they do not
- ya’lamoon (يَعۡلَمُونَ): know
(2:14) Wa idhaa laqul-ladheena aamanoo qaloo aamannaa wa idhaa khalaw ilaa shayateenihim qaloo innaa ma’akum innamaa nahnu mustahzi’oon
(وَإِذَا لَقُواْ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ قَالُوٓاْ ءَامَنَّا وَإِذَا خَلَوۡاْ إِلَىٰ شَيَٰطِينِهِمۡ قَالُوٓاْ إِنَّا مَعَكُمۡ إِنَّمَا نَحۡنُ مُسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ)
- Wa (وَ): And
- idhaa (إِذَا): when
- laqu (لَقُواْ): they meet
- alladheena (ٱلَّذِينَ): those who
- aamanoo (ءَامَنُواْ): believe
- qaloo (قَالُوٓاْ): they say
- aamannaa (ءَامَنَّا): we believe
- wa (وَ): and
- idhaa (إِذَا): when
- khalaw (خَلَوۡاْ): they are alone
- ilaa (إِلَىٰ): with
- shayateenihim (شَيَٰطِينِهِمۡ): their devils
- qaloo (قَالُوٓاْ): they say
- innaa (إِنَّا): indeed, we
- ma’akum (مَعَكُمۡ): are with you
- innamaa (إِنَّمَا): we are only
- nahnu (نَحۡنُ): we
- mustahzi’oon (مُسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ): mockers
(2:15) Allahu yastahzi’u bihim wa yamudduhum fee tughyanihim ya’mahoon
(ٱللَّهُ يَسۡتَهۡزِئُ بِهِمۡ وَيَمُدُّهُمۡ فِي طُغۡيَٰنِهِمۡ يَعۡمَهُونَ)
- Allahu (ٱللَّهُ): Allah
- yastahzi’u (يَسۡتَهۡزِئُ): mocks
- bihim (بِهِمۡ): at them
- wa (وَ): and
- yamudduhum (يَمُدُّهُمۡ): prolongs them
- fee (فِي): in
- tughyanihim (طُغۡيَٰنِهِمۡ): their transgression
- ya’mahoon (يَعۡمَهُونَ): wandering blindly

बिस्मिल्लाहिर् रहमानिर् रहीम।
(2:1) अलिफ़-ला-म-मीम
(2:2) ज़ालिकल किताबु ला रैबा फीहि हुदल-लिल मुत्तक़ीन
(2:3) अल्लज़ीना युमिनूना बिल-ग़ैबि व युकीमूना अस्सलाता व मिम्मा रज़क्नाहुम युनफिक़ून
(2:4) वल्लज़ीना युमिनूना बिमा उनज़िला इलैक व मा उनज़िला मिन क़ब्लिका व बिल आख़िरति हुम यूक़िनून
(2:5) उलाइका अला हुदम-मिर-रब्बिहिम व उलाइका हुमुल मुफ्लिहून
(2:6) इन्नल्लज़ीना कफरू सवाउन अलैहिम अ-अन्ज़रतहुम अम् लम तुन्ज़िरहुम ला युमिनून
(2:7) ख़तमल्लाहु अला कुलूबिहिम व अला समइहिम व अला अबसारिहिम ग़िशावतन व लहुम अज़ाबुन अज़ीम
(2:8) व मिनन्नासि मय-यक़ूलु आमन्ना बिल्लाहि व बिल-यौमिल आख़िरि व मा हुम बि-मुमिनीन
(2:9) युख़ादिउनल्लाह वल्लज़ीना आमनू व मा यख़दऔना इल्ला अन्फुसहुम व मा यशऊरून
(2:10) फी कुलूबिहिम मर्ज़ुन फज़ादहुमुल्लाहु मर्ज़ा व लहुम अज़ाबुन अलीम बिमा कानू यकज़िबून
(2:11) वा इज़ा क़ील लहुम ला तुफ्सिदू फिल-अर्दि क़ालू इन्नमा नहनु मुस्लिहून
(2:12) अला इन्नहुम हुमुल मुफ्सिदूना वलाकिन ला यशऊरून
(2:13) वा इज़ा क़ील लहुम आमिनू कमा आमनन-नासु क़ालू अनु’मिनु कमा आमनस्सुफ़हा अला इन्नहुम हुमुस्सुफ़हा वलाकिन ला यालमून
(2:14) वा इज़ा लक़ुल्लज़ीना आमनू क़ालू आमन्ना वा इज़ा ख़लव इला शयातीनिहिम क़ालू इन्ना मआकुम इन्नमा नहनु मुस्तहज़िऊन
(2:15) अल्लाहु यस्तहज़िउ बिहिम व यमुद्दुहुम फी तुग़्यानिहिम यअमहून
The first 15 verses of Surah Al-Baqarah into Sanskrit
(2:1) ईश्वरः आरम्भः, मध्यः, अन्त्यः च
(ishvarah aarambhah, madhyah, antyah ch)
(2:2) एषः ग्रन्थः संदेहरहितः अस्ति, धर्मात्मनां मार्गदर्शकः।
(Eṣaḥ granthaḥ saṁdeharahitaḥ asti, dharmātmanāṁ mārgadarśakaḥ.)
(2:3) ये अदृश्ये विश्वासं कुर्वन्ति, च प्रार्थनां स्थापयन्ति, च यद् यद् वयं तेषां दत्तवन्तः, तत् व्ययन्ति।
(Ye adṛśye viśvāsaṁ kurvanti, ca prārthanāṁ sthāpayanti, ca yad yad vayaṁ teṣāṁ dattavantaḥ, tat vyayanti.)
(2:4) च ये तव उपदिष्टे विश्वासं कुर्वन्ति, च पूर्वे ग्रन्थे विश्वासं कुर्वन्ति, च परलोकसत्ये अपि।
(Ca ye tava upadiṣṭe viśvāsaṁ kurvanti, ca pūrve granthe viśvāsaṁ kurvanti, ca paralokasatye api.)
(2:5) तेषां स्वस्य ईश्वरात् मार्गदर्शनं अस्ति, च ते सफलाः सन्ति।
(Teṣāṁ svasya īśvarāt mārgadarśanaṁ asti, ca te saphalāḥ santi.)
(2:6) ये अविश्वासी, तेषु चेत् त्वं चेतयसि वा न चेतयसि, ते विश्वासं न कुर्वन्ति।
(Ye aviśvāsī, teṣu cet tvaṁ cetayasi vā na cetayasi, te viśvāsaṁ na kurvanti.)
(2:7) ईश्वरः तेषां हृदयानि, श्रवणं च मुहयति, च तेषां दृष्टिषु आवरणं स्थापयति। च तेषु महानं दण्डः अस्ति।
(Īśvaraḥ teṣāṁ hṛdayāni, śravaṇaṁ ca muhayati, ca teṣāṁ dṛṣṭiṣu āvaraṇaṁ sthāpayati. Ca teṣu mahānaṁ daṇḍaḥ asti.)
(2:8) किञ्चित् मानवाः वदन्ति – ‘‘वयं ईश्वरं च अन्तिमदिने विश्वासं कुर्वः।’’ किन्तु ते विश्वासिनः न सन्ति।
(Kiñcit mānavāḥ vadanti – “Vayaṁ īśvaraṁ ca antimadine viśvāsaṁ kurvaḥ.” Kintu te viśvāsinaḥ na santi.)
(2:9) ते ईश्वरं च विश्वासिनः वञ्चयन्ति, किन्तु ते केवलं आत्मानं वञ्चयन्ति, च न जानीवति।
(Te īśvaraṁ ca viśvāsinaḥ vañcayanti, kintu te kevalaṁ ātmānaṁ vañcayanti, ca na jānīvati.)
(2:10) तेषां हृदये रोगः अस्ति, च ईश्वरः तं रोगं वर्धयति। तेषां झूठानां कारणात् दुःखकरः दण्डः अस्ति।
(Teṣāṁ hṛdaye rogaḥ asti, ca īśvaraḥ taṁ rogaṁ vardhayati. Teṣāṁ jhūṭhānāṁ kāraṇāt duḥkhakaraḥ daṇḍaḥ asti.)
(2:11) यदा तेभ्यः कथ्यते – ‘‘पृथिव्यां अशान्तिं मा कुरुत।’’ ते वदन्ति – ‘‘वयं केवलं शान्तिकारिणः।’’
(Yadā tebhyaḥ kathyate – “Pṛthivyāṁ aśāntiṁ mā kuruta.” Te vadanti – “Vayaṁ kevalaṁ śāntikāriṇaḥ.”)
(2:12) जानीयत – ते एव अशान्तिकारिणः, किन्तु ते न जानन्ति।
(Jānīyata – te eva aśāntikāriṇaḥ, kintu te na jānanti.)
(2:13) यदा तेभ्यः कथ्यते – ‘‘अन्येषां इव विश्वासं कुर्वन्तु।’’ ते वदन्ति – ‘‘वयं मूर्खाणां इव विश्वासं कुर्मः?’’ जानीयत, ते एव मूर्खाः, किन्तु न जानन्ति।
