The first code was enacted in 1859 by Sir Charles Wood. The second enactment was during 1877 by Sir Arthur Hobhouse. Again, an amended code came with 130 sections in 1879. Further the code enacted during 1882. Finally, The Governor-General of India approved the bill on 21 March 1908.
