One can apply Four times in a year :
- 1 November (decision by 8 December; accept offer by 15 January);
- 7 January (decision by 14 February, accept offer by 16 March);
- 2 March (decision by 8 April, accept offer by 8 May);
- 1Â May (decision by 1 June, accept offer by 1 July).
Academic entry qualification overview
A minimum Upper Second class honours degree, or the equivalent, in law.
This programme is a specialised course and not all Law degrees will provide the appropriate background. Potential applicants are advised that transcripts will be checked to ensure appropriate material has been covered.
English language
- IELTS – overall score of 7, including 7 in writing with no further component score below 6.5;
- TOEFL IBT 103 with 28 in writing and no further score below 25 in each section. TOEFL code for Manchester is 0757.
- Pearson – overall 73 with 73 in writing and no further score below 66
Scores are valid for 2 years.

Pre-Sessional English Courses
If you are eligible to do a pre-sessional English course (either 6 weeks or 10 weeks, depending on your English score), you will need to successfully complete the course at the required level before you are permitted to register on your academic course.
English language test validity
Some English Language test results are only valid for two years. Your English Language test report must be valid on the start date of the course.

Undergraduate entry requirements
For entry onto one of the LLB degrees we require CBSE or ISC (national boards) grade 12 examinations with a minimum of 90% overall including 80% in English. Other State boards are considered but may be subject to an increased requirement.
For entry onto one of our BA Criminology degrees we require CBSE or ISC (national boards) grade 12 examinations with a minimum of 80% overall including 80% in English. Other State boards are considered but may be subject to an increased requirement. Contact us for further information.
Master’s entry requirements
For entry onto our master’s degrees, we require a minimum overall average of 60% or a CGPA of 3.2/4.0, 7-8.0/10 in a Bachelor’s degree from a well-ranked institution.
For all our LLM courses (except the LLM Healthcare Ethics and Law) we require an undergraduate Law degree. For MA courses we consider degrees in relevant disciplines.
Postgraduate research entry requirements
For entry onto our postgraduate research degrees, we require an overall average of 65% in Bachelor’s degree and 2-year Master of Law degree or related subject from a well-ranked institution with a strong Merit or it’s equivalent in Master’s dissertation.
For PhD study, a degree in Law or a relevant discipline will be considered.
Course unit details
You will be doing 180 credits in total, 120 of which will be taught course units and the remaining 60 credits, in the form of a dissertation.The LLM course typically offers around 30 different course units in any one year, and will always reflect a wide range of subjects across the legal spectrum.
There will usually be course units offered on diverse topics, such as:
- international trade and corporate law;
- financial services regulation;
- European law;
- international economic law;
- intellectual property law;
- human rights law;
- corporate governance;
- law and finance in emerging markets.
Course units are worth 15 or 30 credits each. You will be required to select course units to a total of 120 credits, and so must choose a minimum of four course units or a maximum of eight course units. The remaining 60 credits will be in the form of a 14,000-15,000 word dissertation.
