भस्वतीतन्त्रम्, यजुर्वेदे प्रमुखं स्थानं धारयत्, “इषे त्वा ऊर्जे त्वा” इत्यादि मन्त्रेभ्यः आरभ्य यज्ञकर्मणः महत्त्वं प्रतिपादयति। अत्र दर्शपूर्णमासेष्टि प्रकरणे होमकर्मस्य विधि: वर्ण्यते।
“इष्टि” शब्दस्य अर्थः यज्ञः, विशेषतः अग्निहोमः, इत्यस्ति। एषः यज्ञकर्म यजुर्वेदस्य ३९ अध्यायेषु विषदं वर्णितः, यत्र यज्ञकर्मणः माध्यमेन पुरुषार्थचतुष्टयस्य मार्गः दर्शितः।
यजुर्वेदे होमकर्मेण प्रारम्भः क्रियते, ततः क्रमशः देवतानां ज्ञानं प्रदीयते, अन्ते “ईशावास्यमिदं सर्वम्” इत्यादि ईशावास्योपनिषदस्य मन्त्रोक्तज्ञानं परमोच्च स्थाने प्रतिष्ठापयति।

The Bhasvati Tantra holds an important place in the Yajurveda. Beginning with mantras such as “I take you for nourishment, I take you for strength,” it establishes the importance of sacrificial action. In this section, particularly in the context of the Darsha–Purnamasa rites, the procedures of fire offerings are described.
The word “Ishti” means sacrifice, especially a fire offering. This sacrificial practice is explained in detail across the 39 chapters of the Yajurveda, where the path to the four aims of human life is shown through the medium of ritual action.
In the Yajurveda, the process begins with fire rituals. Gradually, knowledge of the deities is imparted. Finally, the teaching culminates in the wisdom expressed in the Ishavasya Upanishad, beginning with the idea that all this is pervaded by the Divine, which is established as the highest truth.
Thus, the Bhasvati Tantra, grounded in ritual action, ultimately leads to the highest point of Upanishadic knowledge, where, beginning with fire ritual, one attains self-realization through the knowledge of the Divine. The Ishavasya Upanishad, the final chapter (40th) of the Shukla Yajur Veda (Madhyandin tradition), stands as a foundational text of Vedic philosophy. Traditionally associated with the sage Yajnavalkya (4500 BCE), it arose during a formative period in ancient India when philosophical inquiry was deepening and beginning to shape enduring spiritual traditions.

Ishavasya Upanishad: Understanding the Meaning of “Isha”
इशावस्य इति किमर्थमिति वक्ष्यामः। वास्य इत्यर्थः आवृतः व्याप्तः अन्तरङ्गः वा । किन्तु केन ? इशा इति कथयन् । ईशा किम् ? यदि वास्तविकता एकः तर्हि कम् आच्छादयति? कम् आज्ञापयति? कस्य शासनं करोति ? कस्मै निर्दिशति कस्मै च उपदिशति ?
यदि वयं द्वौ शाश्वतपक्षौ गृहीत्वा आरभामः तर्हि श्रेयस्करम्। न वदामः यत् एकस्य सत्तायाः शाश्वतपक्षद्वयम्। यदि तादृशं तर्हि सत्यस्य औचित्यप्रश्नः भविष्यति। अस्माकं मस्तिष्कं कदापि एकतायाः दृष्ट्या चिन्तयितुं न शक्नोति, अपितु सर्वदा बहुलतायाः सह गच्छति। अतः वयं बहुलता एव किमपि अवगन्तुं प्रथमं सोपानं यदि उच्चतरं विद्यते इति विचारेण प्रगतिः करिष्यामः।
(We shall explain what is meant by “Ishavasya.” The word “vasya” means covered, pervaded, or inwardly present. But by what is it covered? By “Isha,” it is said.
What is “Isha”? If reality is one, then what does it cover? What does it command? Over whom does it exercise authority? To whom does it give direction or instruction?
If we begin by accepting two eternal aspects, it becomes easier to proceed. We do not say that a single existence has two eternal divisions, for that would raise questions about the consistency of truth. The human mind is not able to think purely in terms of absolute unity; it tends instead to move through multiplicity. Therefore, we proceed by first understanding multiplicity as a step, with the possibility that a higher unity may exist beyond it )
We shall clarify the meaning of “Ishavasya.” The term “vasya” conveys the sense of being covered, pervaded, or inwardly present. But what is it that pervades or envelops? It is said to be “Isha.”
The expression “Ishavasya” can be understood by examining its parts. “Vasya” suggests something that is enveloped, permeated, or interwoven, indicating an all-pervading presence. This pervasion is attributed to “Isha.” But what does “Isha” signify? If reality is ultimately one, then what is being enveloped? Who is guided or governed? To whom does this principle extend its authority or instruction?
The discussion introduces the idea of two eternal aspects as a starting point. It does not claim that a single reality is divided into two eternal parts, as such a view would raise questions about the coherence of truth. Instead, it recognizes that the human mind naturally approaches understanding through multiplicity rather than pure unity. Therefore, plurality becomes the first step in inquiry, allowing for gradual movement toward a deeper and more unified understanding.
Interpretation of OM
The reflection on “OM” in this context unfolds a deeper philosophical vision. It begins with “Isha,” representing the divine principle, and culminates in “Brahman,” expressed as the all-encompassing reality. “OM” serves as a symbol of the fundamental vibration underlying existence, embodying the unity of all creation. It points to the relationship between the individual self and universal consciousness, inviting contemplation on the deeper structure of reality and the ultimate ground of being.
“ॐ” इति पूर्णशब्दत्वं स्वयंसंपूर्णं स्वयंसंवृतं च इति प्रतिपादनं तस्य आन्तरिकपूर्णत्वं विशदं करोति। “खं” इति चिह्नं केवलं आकाशस्य प्रतीकं न, अपितु विस्तारस्य द्योतकं। अयं विस्तारः “ॐ” स्वरस्य शब्दतः विस्तारं न, यतः सः पूर्वोक्तरीत्या स्वयंसंपूर्णः। अतः उक्तः विस्तारः परमार्थसत्यं सम्बद्धः, यस्य प्रकाशनाय भौतिकतत्त्वस्य आवश्यकता विद्यते।
Upon further reflection, it becomes evident that the consummated form of Brahman is denoted by “OM.” When Brahman is in its absorbed state, it embodies the essence of “OM.” This symbolic representation encapsulates the entirety of expansion, enveloped by the divine presence of “Isha.”
उपनिषदः ईशाशब्देन आरब्धः, ब्रह्मशब्देन च समाप्तः । ओ३म् खं ब्रह्म॑ नमः । ओम् इत्यस्य वास्तविकः अर्थः किम् इति वस्तुतः वयं न जानीमः। ओम् इति परिसमाप्तः शब्दः । स्वयमेव परिपूर्यते । खं किम् ? वर्णनम् अस्ति, मा गगनस्य वर्णनं गृहाण। वर्णनं विस्तार इत्यर्थः । किं विस्तारः ? ॐ न शक्यं विस्तारयितुं यथा स्वयं सेव्यते, यथा अस्माभिः इदानीं व्याख्यातम्। अथ यस्य विस्तारः, विस्तारः कस्यापि भौतिकतत्त्वस्य विना विस्तारं कर्तुं न शक्यते। आम्! सत्यम्! यदा तु तस्य विस्तारः भविष्यति तदा ब्रह्म एव भविष्यति। अतः यदा ब्रह्म पूर्णे लीनरूपे भवति तदा ॐ उच्यते। समग्रं विस्तारं ईशाना आवृतम् अस्ति।
‘इशा वश्यादि’ वचनमाधिकृत्य इशेन् सकलं जगत: अच्छादितं, बशीभूतं वा इत्यादि अर्थम्। तत्र ऋग्वेदे एतानि उदाहरणानि दत्तानि सन्ति-
ई॒शा॒न इ॒मा भुव॑नानि॒ वीय॑से युजा॒न इ॑न्दो ह॒रित॑: सुप॒र्ण्य॑: । तास्ते॑ क्षरन्तु॒ मधु॑मद्घृ॒तं पय॒स्तव॑ व्र॒ते सो॑म तिष्ठन्तु कृ॒ष्टय॑: ॥ (Rig veda ९.८६.३७/७.३.१९.२). ईशे यो विश्वस्या देववीतेरीशे विश्वायुरुषसो व्युष्टौ । आ यस्मिन्मना हवींष्यग्नावरिष्टरथः स्कभ्नाति शूषैः (१०.६.३/७.६.१.३)
The Upanishad begins with the word “ईशा” (Isha) and concludes with “ब्रह्म” (Brahman), indicating a movement from the governing principle to the ultimate reality. The expression “ओ३म् खं ब्रह्म नमः” brings these ideas together in a condensed form of contemplation.
But what is the true meaning of “ॐ” (Om)? In reality, it cannot be fully defined. Om is a complete sound, a total expression that fulfills itself. It does not depend on anything outside it for completion.
Then what is “खं” (kham)? It is often described as space or expanse. But this is not merely physical space like the sky. Rather, it signifies vastness or extension. Yet here arises a difficulty—Om itself cannot be expanded, because it is already whole, already complete as it is experienced and contemplated.
Expansion, in ordinary terms, requires some material basis. One cannot speak of extension without something that extends. This is true at the physical level. However, when this idea of expansion reaches its highest possibility, it becomes Brahman itself. Thus, when reality exists in its fully expanded, all-encompassing form, it is called Brahman. And when that same reality is understood as complete and self-contained, it is expressed as Om.
In this sense, the entire expanse of existence is enveloped by Isha—pervaded, governed, and inwardly held within it.
The phrase “ईशा वश्य” (Isha vasyam) therefore conveys that the whole universe is covered, pervaded, or brought under the presence of Isha.
This idea is also reflected in the Rig Veda, where Isha is described as the one who pervades and governs all worlds, sustaining existence and guiding the unfolding of life. These hymns portray Isha as the underlying principle that holds together all beings, actions, and movements within the cosmos.
Thus, the teaching unfolds as a continuum:
Isha as the all-pervading presence, Om as the complete expression of reality, and Brahman as the infinite expanse in which all existence is contained and realized.
First Vedic Constitution: Principles of Ownership and Consumption
ई॒शा वा॒स्य॒मि॒दᳪ सर्वं॒ यत्किं च॒ जग॑त्यां॒ जग॑त् ।
तेन॑ त्य॒क्तेन॑ भुञ्जीथा॒ मा गृ॑ध॒: कस्य॑ स्वि॒द्धन॑म् ॥ १ ॥
‘ईश ऐश्वर्ये’, ‘वस आच्छादने, ‘गृधु अभिकाङ्क्षायाम्’, स्विन्निपातो वितर्कवचनः इत्यादि व्याकरणम् । दधीचाथर्वणेन दृष्टः । ईश्वरः जगति सर्वं आच्छादयति इति वचनं कृत्वा अधुना अनुशंसयन्तु यत् धनं परस्य इति केनापि न स्वीक्रियताम् । तर्हि कथं जीवितव्यम् ? यथा पक्षिणः वृक्षेभ्यः फलं खादन्ति, मत्स्याः जले निवसन्ति, भृङ्गाः पुष्पेभ्यः अमृतं संग्रहयन्ति। न निजी सम्पत्तिः भविष्यति, यथा सर्वं ईश्वरस्य एव, अन्येषु केवलं त्वं लाभार्थी असि इति प्रथममन्त्रस्य अभिप्रायः।
प्रस्तुत व्याकरणीय विश्लेषण तथा “ईशावास्यमिदं सर्वम्” इत्यादि मन्त्रस्य अभिप्रायः गूढं दार्शनिकं सन्देशं संप्रेषयति।
व्याकरण-विश्लेषणः
- ईशः – “ईश” धातुः ऐश्वर्ये (शासनकर्तृत्वे) प्रयुज्यते। ईश्वरः जगतः सर्वोच्च शासनकर्ता इत्यर्थः। ‘इन्द्रो विश्वस्य राजति’।
- वस – “वस” धातुः आच्छादने प्रयुज्यते। ईश्वरः सम्पूर्णं जगत् आच्छादयति, सर्वत्र व्याप्यते।
- गृधु – “गृधु” धातुः अभिकाङ्क्षायाम् प्रयुज्यते। लोभ, तृष्णा वा व्यक्त करने हेतु प्रयोगः।
दधीचस्य दृष्टिः
दधीच ऋषिः अथर्ववेदस्य महान् दृष्टा, वेदज्ञानस्य गूढार्थं प्रकाशयन्, अस्मिन् मन्त्रे स्पष्टं सूचितं करोति यत् –
- ईश्वरः सर्वं व्याप्यते।
- मनुष्यस्य धर्मः अस्ति लोभं त्यक्त्वा यथार्थजीवनं कर्तुं।
- धनं वा सम्पत्तिः परस्य हरणीयं न भवेत्।
जीवितस्य मार्गः
प्रश्नोत्तरेन ऋषिः उत्तरं यच्छति यः अस्य मन्त्रस्य केन्द्रीयतत्त्वं वदति –
- पक्षिणः वृक्षेभ्यः फलं खादन्ति – पक्षिणः वृक्षेभ्यः केवलं आवश्यकं खादन्ति, वृक्षं न क्षति करन्ति।
- मत्स्याः जले निवसन्ति – मत्स्याः जलं न दूषयन्ति, केवलं निर्भरं जीवनं कुर्वन्ति।
- भृङ्गाः पुष्पेभ्यः अमृतं संग्रहयन्ति – भृङ्गाः पुष्पं न विनाशयन्ति, केवलं मधु संग्रहयन्ति।
मन्त्रस्य अभिप्रायः
अयं मन्त्रः सूचितं करोति यत् सर्वं वस्तु ईश्वरस्य एव। तस्मात् –
- लोभं त्यक्त्वा, अन्येषां अधिकारं सम्मान्य जीवनं चरेत्।
- “संसारस्य सम्पत्तिः न निजी सम्पत्तिः अस्ति” इत्येतत् दृष्टिकोणं धारयेत्।
- जीवनं सह-अस्तित्वस्य (coexistence) आदर्शं अनुसरन्, स्वयम् उपभोगं कुर्वन्, परेषां अधिकारं रक्षितं कुर्वीत।
निष्कर्षः
ईशावास्योपनिषदः प्रथममन्त्रः न केवलं दार्शनिकं मार्गदर्शनं करोति, अपितु व्यवहारिकं जीवनं धर्मयुक्तं च प्रदर्शयति। एषः मन्त्रः त्यागं, संतोषं च जीवनस्य मूलमूल्यं वदति, यत्र सम्पूर्णं ईश्वरात्मकं दृष्ट्यात्मिकं च अस्ति।

यदि कश्चन बुद्धस्य सारं धारयितुमिच्छति, किन्तु अन्नोत्पादनक्रियासु स्वयमेव सक्रियः न भवति, तर्हि तस्य परगृहेभ्यः पोषणं याचितुमयोग्यं भवति। एषः व्यवहारः स्वार्थभावं जनयित्वा करुणाया आत्मत्यागस्य च मूल्यम् विघ्नं करोति।

अ॒सु॒र्या नाम॑ ते लो॒का अ॒न्धेन॒ तम॒सावृ॑ताः ।
ताँस्ते प्रेत्यापि॑ गच्छन्ति॒ ये के चा॑त्म॒हनो॒ जना॑: ॥ ३ ॥
एषः मन्त्रः असुराणां स्वभावं प्रकटयति। असुराः असुर्याः, अर्थात् ते उन्नतजीवनमार्गं न अनुसरन्ति। आत्मानं घ्नन्ति ये जनाः ते आत्महनः इत्युच्यन्ते, यतः ते आत्मज्ञानेन विहीनाः सन्तः स्वीयं आध्यात्मिकं विनाशं कुर्वन्ति। मृत्वा देहं परित्यज्य, ते सूर्यविहीनं तमःपूर्णं स्थानं गच्छन्ति इत्यर्थः।
अत्र स्मर्तव्यम् यत् अस्मिन् मन्त्रे पुनर्जन्मसिद्धान्तः न दर्शितः। अपितु, आत्मज्ञानस्य अभावे जनाः अज्ञानस्य अन्धकारं प्राप्नुवन्ति इत्येतत् स्पष्टं क्रियते। एषः मन्त्रः आत्मचिन्तनं प्रोत्साहयति, यथा मनुष्यः स्वस्य अन्तर्ज्ञानं प्रबोधयेत्।

यः पुरुषः सर्वेषु भूतकर्मणि आत्मस्वरूपं एव पश्यति, अर्थात् जीवात्मा (ego) तथा परमात्मा (non-ego) एकं एव इति अनुभूतिं प्राप्नोति। यः सर्वभूतेषु आत्मानं पश्यति, सः द्वैतादर्शनं त्यक्त्वा, संशयः रहितं चित्तं धृतवान् भवति।
यस्मि॒न्त्सर्वा॑णि भू॒तान्यात्मै॒वाभू॑द्विजान॒तः ।
तत्र॒ को मोह॒: कः शोक॑ एक॒त्वम॑नु॒पश्य॑तः ॥ ७ ॥
यत्र ज्ञानी पुरुषः अनुभूतिं प्राप्नोति यत् सर्वं जगत् आत्मरूपं एव, तत्र मोहः (अज्ञानजनित भ्रमः) तथा शोकः (दुःख) अपि निवर्तते।”एकत्वं” इत्युक्ते, अद्वैत-दर्शनं, यत्र आत्मा एव सर्वं अस्ति।
स पर्य॑गाच्छु॒क्रम॑का॒यम॑व्र॒णम॑स्नावि॒रᳪ शु॒द्धमपा॑पविद्धम् ।
क॒विर्म॑नी॒षी प॑रि॒भूः स्व॑य॒म्भूर्या॑थातथ्य॒तोऽर्था॒न् व्य॒दधाच्छाश्व॒तीभ्य॒: समा॑भ्यः ॥ ८ ॥
सः (परमात्मा > शं नो भवतु भुवनस्य यस् पतिः) सर्वत्र व्याप्यते, सः शुक्लस्वभावः, शरीररहितः, अव्रणः (निरदोषः), अस्नाविरः (निरंतरः), शुद्धः च। सः पापेन अयुक्तः अस्ति। सः कविः (सर्वज्ञः), मनीषी (धीरः), परिभूः (सर्वत्र विद्यमानः), स्वयम्भूः (स्वतः प्रकटितः) च अस्ति। यथातथ्येन अर्थान् (सृष्टेः तत्वान्) व्यवस्थितवान्। सः अनादिकालपर्यन्तं शाश्वतीभ्यः समाभ्यः प्राप्यते। अस्मिन मन्त्रे परमात्मनः नित्यत्वं, पवित्रत्वं, सर्वज्ञत्वं च वर्ण्यते।
अ॒न्धं तम॒: प्रवि॑शन्ति॒ येऽसं॑भूतिमु॒पास॑ते ।

स्मर्यतां यत् मृत्योः पूर्वं कर्तव्यं भवति, परन्तु केनचित् कारणेन तत् न कृतम् । तानि कार्याणि स्मरन्तु यत् कश्चित् भ्रान्त्या कृतवान् । पुनः स्मर्यतां च यानि मृत्योः पूर्वं सम्यक् कृतानि। ॐ, शब्दस्य अर्थः अस्मिन् सन्दर्भे ‘निश्चयेन’ इति।
अग्ने॒ नय॑ सु॒पथा॑ रा॒ये अ॒स्मान्विश्वा॑नि देव व॒युना॑नि वि॒द्वान् ।
यु॒यो॒ध्यस्मज्जु॑हुरा॒णमेनो॒ भुयि॑ष्ठां ते॒ नम॑ उक्तिं विधेम ॥ १६ ॥ (Praying to Agni)
हे ! अग्निः ते नम उक्तिं विधेम ।
हि॒र॒ण्मये॑न॒ पात्रे॑ण स॒त्यस्यापि॑हितं॒ मुख॑म् । यो॒ऽसावा॑दि॒त्ये पुरु॑ष॒: सोऽसाव॒हम् । (Identity with Agni/ Aditya)
योऽसावादित्ये पुरुषः सोऽसावहम् । पुरुषः स्वस्य अन्तः सत्त्वेन सह परिचितः अस्ति। आदित्यः आदौ यः आसीत् सः जीवः इति उच्यते। आदित्यस्य अन्तः पदार्थः साधकस्य अन्तः पदार्थः च समानः। तांत्रिकदृष्ट्या पुरुषः इति कथ्यते । आवृतः जीवः पुरुषः इति उच्यते। पुरुषः वास्तविकः सद् वस्तु (शिवम्) अस्ति, यः विस्तारेण आवृतः अस्ति। अहम् इत्यादि सर्वस्य विस्तारः। अहमस्य अन्तः स्वरवर्णः, ब्याञ्जनवर्णः च अन्तर्भवति । ‘तत् सवितुर् वरेण्यं भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि । धियो यो नः प्रचोदयत्’ (यजु 30.2). ‘सवितारं नृचक्षसम्’ (The sun is the human eye) (यजु 30.4)
प्रस्तुत मन्त्र तथा तांत्रिक-दार्शनिक दृष्ट्या “पुरुषः” विषयक व्याख्या अद्वैतवादस्य गूढ तत्त्वज्ञानं प्रतिपादयति। एषः दृष्टिकोणः आदित्य (सूर्यः) तथा पुरुषः (जीवः) के पारस्परिक सम्बन्धं दर्शयति, यत्र ब्रह्माण्डीय सत्यं व्यक्तिगत् चेतनया संयुक्तं अस्ति। भूर् भुवः स्वः । तत् सवितुर् वरेण्यं भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि । धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात्, इति।
आदित्ये पुरुषः: तत्त्वज्ञानम्
- आदित्यः पुरुषः सोऽहम् –
“आदित्यः” ब्रह्माण्डस्य प्राणस्वरूपः अस्ति। यः आदित्यस्य अन्तः पदार्थः (प्रकाशः), सः “पुरुषः” (आध्यात्मिक चेतना) च अस्ति। अयं तत्त्वः अद्वैतं वदति – “सूर्यः” यः बाह्यजगतः प्रकाशकः अस्ति, सः आत्मनः प्रकाशस्य प्रतीकः च अस्ति। - पुरुषः स्वस्य अन्तः सत्त्वेन परिचितः –
“पुरुषः” इति शब्दः आवृतं चैतन्यं दर्शयति। वास्तविकतः पुरुषः “शिवः” अर्थात् शुद्ध चेतना अस्ति, यः अज्ञानरूपेण (माया) विस्तारितः अस्ति। तांत्रिकदृष्ट्या, पुरुषः वस्तुतः बन्धनग्रस्त जीवः अस्ति, यः आत्मज्ञानेन मोक्षं प्राप्नोति। - आदित्यस्य अन्तः पदार्थः –
आदित्यः तथा पुरुषः, उभयोः अन्तः पदार्थः समानः अस्ति। आदित्यः जगत्-प्रकाशः, तथा पुरुषः आत्म-प्रकाशः। यथा आदित्यः भौतिक जीवनस्य आधारः, तथैव पुरुषः आध्यात्मिक जीवनस्य मूलः।
“अहम्” इत्यस्य गूढार्थः
- “अहम्” स्वरूपम् –
“अहम्” अस्तित्वस्य मूलतत्त्वं दर्शयति। “अहम्” इत्यस्मिन् स्वरवर्णः तथा व्यञ्जनवर्णः अन्तर्भूतौ, यत्र स्वरवर्णः अस्तित्वस्य मूल (सत्) स्वरूपं द्योतयति, तथा व्यञ्जनवर्णः अस्तित्वस्य अभिव्यक्तिं। - अहम् एवं ब्रह्माण्डीय विस्तारः –
“अहम्” अद्वैतदृष्ट्या संपूर्ण ब्रह्माण्डस्य प्रतीकः अस्ति। “तत्त्वमसि” इत्युक्ते, “अहम्” ब्रह्मस्वरूपः अस्ति।
यजुर्वेदे “सविता” विषयक मन्त्रा:
- “तत् सवितुर् वरेण्यं…” (यजु 30.2) –
अत्र “सविता” (सूर्यः) ब्रह्माण्डीय चेतनायाः प्रेरकः अस्ति। “भर्गः” इति प्रकाशरूपेण सविता (आत्मा) चित्तं प्रबोधितुं सक्षमः अस्ति। - “सवितारं नृचक्षसम्” (यजु 30.4) –
अत्र “सविता” मनुष्यस्य चक्षुः इत्युच्यते। बाह्यदृष्ट्या, आदित्यः भौतिक चक्षुः अस्ति; आन्तरिकदृष्ट्या, आत्मा अद्वितीय प्रकाशः चक्षुः अस्ति।
निष्कर्षः
“पुरुषः” आदित्यस्य प्रकाशस्य प्रतीकः, यः आत्मतत्त्वं बोधयति। यजुर्वेदे आदित्यस्य तथा पुरुषस्य सम्बन्धः गूढरूपेण प्रतिपाद्यते। एषः सम्बन्धः दर्शयति यत् बाह्य तथा आभ्यन्तर अस्तित्वं परस्परम् एकं तत्त्वं दर्शयतः। “अहम्” तथा “सविता” इत्येतयोः प्रतीकत्वेन, आत्मा ब्रह्माण्डीय चेतनायाः प्रतिबिम्बः इति बोध्यते। “आदित्ये पुरुषः सोऽसावहम्” इत्युक्तं, आत्मनः ब्रह्मस्वरूपं सूचयति। ‘ऋचं वाचं प्रपद्ये, मनो यजुः प्रपद्ये, साम प्राणं प्रपद्ये’ इति।
ओ३म् खं ब्रह्म॑ ॥
‘अन्तरिक्षꣳ शिवं’ (यजु 35.9)

एषः मन्त्रः ब्रह्मतत्त्वस्य सूक्ष्मस्वरूपं प्रकटयति। “खं” इत्यस्य अर्थः आकाशः, परं निर्विशेषं ब्रह्म। अयं मन्त्रः अद्वैतस्य सिद्धान्तं प्रतिपादयति यत्र “खं” ब्रह्मस्वरूपं दर्शयति, यः सर्वत्र व्यापि, निर्विकार, तथा निराकारः अस्ति।
“अन्तरिक्षं शिवं” (यजुर्वेदः 35.9)
अत्र “अन्तरिक्षम्” शब्देन सूचितं शिवतत्त्वं अस्ति। “शिव” इत्यस्य मूलार्थः कल्याणम्, शुद्धं, तथा परमं मंगलं। यजुर्वेदे अयं मन्त्रः सूचितं करोति यत् –

अंतरिक्षं न केवलं भौतिक आकाशं अपितु ब्रह्माण्डीय चेतनायाः शुद्ध स्वरूपं च। यत्र आकाशं निर्विशेषं, अनन्तं, तथा निर्विकारं, तत् शिवस्य प्रतीकं भवति। - शिवं कल्याणात्मकं स्वरूपं –
अंतरिक्षं शुद्धम्, मुक्तं, तथा सबन्ध-रहितं अस्ति। एषः तत्त्वः आत्मज्ञानस्य तथा मोक्षस्य प्रतीकः अस्ति।

निष्कर्षः
यजुर्वेदः अस्य मन्त्रस्य माध्यमेन सूचितं करोति यत् अंतरिक्षं केवलं भौतिक आकाशं न, अपितु ब्रह्मस्वरूपस्य प्रतिरूपं। “ओ३म् खं ब्रह्म॑” इत्युक्त्या अद्वैततत्त्वं आत्मसात्कर्तुं प्रोत्साहनं प्रदीयते, यत्र “शिव” परमं कल्याणं तथा मोक्षमार्गः भवति।
ईशावास्योपनिषदः प्रथमानि मन्त्राणि (४०.१–१६) समग्रं दार्शनिकदर्शनं प्रतिपादयन्ति, यत् ईश्वरस्य सर्वव्यापकतायाः उद्घोषेण आरभ्य नैतिकजीवनं, आत्मसाक्षात्कारं, मोक्षं च पर्यवसति। “ईशावास्यमिदं सर्वम्” इति वचनं जगतः सर्वस्य दैवेन आवरणं सूचयति, तथा त्यागेन भोगः, अलोभश्च उपदिश्यते। “कुर्वन्नेवेह कर्माणि” इति कर्मयोगस्य अनिवार्यता प्रतिपाद्यते, येन आसक्तिरहितेन कर्मणा बन्धनं न भवति। अज्ञानिनां तु अन्धतमसि पतनं चेत्यते। परमतत्त्वं च अचलम् अपि चलति, दूरम् अपि समीपम्, अन्तर्बहिश्च सर्वत्र वर्तते इति निरूप्यते। यः सर्वभूतेषु आत्मानं पश्यति, स मोहशोकौ अतिवर्तते। विद्या-अविद्ययोः, सम्भूत्यसम्भूत्योश्च समन्वयेन अमृतत्वप्राप्तिः दर्श्यते। अन्ते देहस्य अनित्यत्वं स्मार्यते, अग्निदेवतां प्रति शुभमार्गप्रार्थना च क्रियते। इति मोक्षमार्गः समन्वितरूपेण उपदिश्यते।
इति माध्यन्दिनीयायां वाजसनेयसंहितायां चत्वारिंशोऽध्यायः
एवं भट्टाचार्यतन्मयकृतस्य वज्रजालतन्त्रे ईशावास्योपनिषदस्य भास्वतीतन्त्रभाष्यं परमं गूढं तत्त्वं प्रतिपादयत्, यत्र आत्मा तथा परमात्मनः अद्वैतमूलकं सम्बन्धं प्रकाश्यते। इदं भाष्यं तत्त्वज्ञानस्य, योगस्य, तथा तन्त्रस्य संयोगेन आध्यात्मिक जीवनस्य प्रकाशं ददाति।
भाष्यं यस्य आशिर्वादेन समाप्तं भवति, सः सन्देशः एषः अस्ति यः सर्वमङ्गलाय तथा साधकानां आत्मोत्थानाय समर्पितं। “ईशावास्यमिदं सर्वम्” इत्यस्य मन्त्रस्य गूढार्थः “सर्वत्र ईश्वरं पश्य” इति सन्देशं ददाति।
अतः वज्रजालतन्त्रे एषा समापन-श्लोकधारा दर्शयति यत् ज्ञानं, भक्ति:, तथा योगः जीवनस्य परं मार्गं भवति। भाष्यं ईशावास्योपनिषदस्य तत्त्वं प्रकटयन्, साधकानां चित्तरूपे आत्मसाक्षात्कारं प्रोत्साहयति। सर्वे भवन्तु सुखिनः, सर्वत्र ईश्वरस्य दर्शनं साधकस्य अन्तिमं लक्ष्यं भवेत्।
अयं ग्रन्थः आशीर्वादेन पूर्णत्वं प्राप्नोति।
द्यौः शान्तिर् अन्तरिक्षꣳ शान्तिः पृथिवी शान्तिर् आपः शान्तिर् ओषधयः शान्तिः । वनस्पतयः शान्तिर् विश्वे देवाः शान्तिर् ब्रह्म शान्तिः सर्वꣳ शान्तिः शान्तिर् एव शान्तिः सा मा शान्तिर् एधि ॥

ईशावास्योपनिषत् (ज्ञानकाण्डम्)
मंत्र 40.1 ईशा वास्यम् इदꣳ सर्वं यत् किं च जगत्यां जगत्। तेन त्यक्तेन भुञ्जीथा मा गृधः कस्य स्विद् धनम्॥
व्याख्या: यह समस्त ब्रह्मांड ईश्वर से व्याप्त है। इस जगत् में जो कुछ भी गतिशील है, उसे त्याग की भावना से उपभोग करो। लोभ मत करो, क्योंकि यह सब वस्तुतः ईश्वर का ही है।
मंत्र 40.2 कुर्वन्न् एवेह कर्माणि जिजीविषेच् छतꣳ समाः। एवं त्वयि नान्यथेतो ’स्ति न कर्म लिप्यते नरे॥
व्याख्या: सत्कर्म करते हुए सौ वर्षों तक जीने की इच्छा करो। यही जीवन का उचित मार्ग है। इस प्रकार कर्म में लिप्त होते हुए भी पाप तुम्हें स्पर्श नहीं करेगा।
मंत्र 40.3 असुर्या नाम ते लोका ’अन्धेन तमसावृताः। ताꣳस् ते प्रेत्यापि गच्छन्ति ये के चात्महनो जनाः॥
व्याख्या: जो आत्महत्या के समान अपने वास्तविक स्वरूप को नकारते हैं, वे अज्ञान और अंधकार से आवृत्त ‘असुर’ लोकों को प्राप्त होते हैं। यह उन लोगों के लिए चेतावनी है जो अध्यात्म से विमुख रहते हैं।
मंत्र 40.4 अनेजद् एकं मनसो जवीयो नैनद् देवा ’आप्नुवन् पूर्वम् अर्शत्। तद् धावतो ’न्यान् अत्य् एति तिष्ठत् तस्मिन्न् अपो मातरिश्वा दधाति॥
व्याख्या: ईश्वर स्थिर और एक होने पर भी मन और वायु से भी तेज है। वह सब कुछ व्याप्त करते हुए अन्य सबको पीछे छोड़ देता है। उसी में सारा ब्रह्मांड संचालित होता है।
मंत्र 40.5 तद् एजति तन् नैजति तद् दूरे तद् व् अन्तिके। तद् अन्तर् अस्य सर्वस्य तद् उ सर्वस्यास्य बाह्यतः॥
व्याख्या: ईश्वर गतिशील है और अचल भी। वह सुदूर और समीप दोनों है। वह सबके भीतर और सबके बाहर विद्यमान है।
मंत्र 40.6 यस् तु सर्वाणि भूतान्य् आत्मन्न् एवानुपश्यति। सर्वभूतेषु चात्मानं ततो न वि चिकित्सति॥
व्याख्या: जो व्यक्ति समस्त प्राणियों को अपने आत्मस्वरूप में देखता है और अपने आत्मा को समस्त प्राणियों में देखता है, वह किसी प्रकार का भ्रम नहीं करता।
मंत्र 40.7 यस्मिन्त् सर्वाणि भूतान्य् आत्मैवाभूद् विजानतः। तत्र को मोहः कः शोक ’एकत्वम् अनुपश्यतः॥
व्याख्या: जो व्यक्ति ज्ञान द्वारा यह अनुभव करता है कि सभी जीवात्माएं एक ही परमात्मा में समाहित हैं, उसके लिए मोह और शोक का स्थान नहीं रहता।
मंत्र 40.8 स पर्य् अगाच् छुक्रम् अकायम् अव्रणम् अस्नाविरꣳ शुद्धम् अपापविद्धम्। कविर् मनीषी परिभूः स्वयंभूर् याथातथ्यतो ’र्थान् व्यदधाच्छाश्वतीभ्यः समाभ्यः॥
व्याख्या: वह परमात्मा सर्वव्यापक, दिव्य, शरीररहित, निर्मल, पापरहित, और सर्वज्ञ है। वह सृष्टि के सच्चे रूप को जानने वाला और कालातीत सत्य का स्रष्टा है।
मंत्र 40.9 अन्धं तमः प्र विशन्ति ये ’असंभूतिम् उपासते। ततो भूय ’इव ते तमो य ’उ संभूत्याꣳ रताः॥
व्याख्या: जो लोग असंभूति (प्रकृति या अधूरी सृष्टि) की उपासना करते हैं, वे घोर अंधकार में जाते हैं। जो केवल संभूति (संपूर्ण सृष्टि) में रत रहते हैं, वे भी गहन अज्ञान में गिरते हैं।
मंत्र 40.10 अन्यद् एवाहुः संभवाद् अन्यद् आहुर् असंभवात्। इति शुश्रुम धीराणां ये नस् तद् विचचक्षिरे॥
व्याख्या: संभूति (संपूर्णता) और असंभूति (अधूरापन) के ज्ञान को लेकर विद्वानों ने भिन्न मत प्रकट किए हैं। इसे समझने के लिए हमें उनके अनुभव का अनुसरण करना चाहिए।
मंत्र 40.11 संभूतिं च विनाशं च यस् तद् वेदोभयꣳ सह। विनाशेन मृत्युं तीर्त्वा संभूत्यामृतम् अश्नुते॥
व्याख्या: जो व्यक्ति संभूति और विनाश दोनों के सत्य को समझता है, वह विनाश (अज्ञान) को पार कर अमरत्व प्राप्त करता है।
मंत्र 40.12 अन्धं तमः प्र विशन्ति ये ’अविद्याम् उपासते। ततो भूय ’इव ते तमो य ’उ विद्यायाꣳ रताः॥
व्याख्या: जो अविद्या (अज्ञान) की उपासना करते हैं, वे अंधकार में प्रवेश करते हैं। जो केवल विद्या (ज्ञान) में लीन रहते हैं, वे भी अज्ञान के गहनतम स्तर पर चले जाते हैं।
मंत्र 40.13 अन्यद् एवाहुर् विद्याया ’ अन्यद् आहुर् अविद्यायाः। इति शुश्रुम धीराणां ये नस् तद् विचचक्षिरे॥
व्याख्या: विद्या और अविद्या के परिणाम अलग-अलग हैं। धीर पुरुषों से यह ज्ञान प्राप्त होता है।
मंत्र 40.14 विद्यां चाविद्यां च यस् तद् वेदोभयꣳ सह। अविद्यया मृत्युं तीर्त्वा विद्ययामृतम् अश्नुते॥
व्याख्या: जो व्यक्ति विद्या और अविद्या दोनों का ज्ञान रखता है, वह अविद्या को पार कर मृत्यु से मुक्त होता है और विद्या से अमृतत्व प्राप्त करता है।
मंत्र 40.15 वायुर् अनिलम् अमृतम् अथेदं भस्मान्तꣳ शरीरम्। ओ3म् क्रतो स्मर क्लिबे स्मर कृतꣳ स्मर॥
व्याख्या: शरीर नश्वर है और मृत्यु के पश्चात् वायु में विलीन हो जाता है। मृत्यु के समय अपनी साधनाओं और सत्कर्मों को स्मरण करना चाहिए।
मंत्र 40.16 अग्ने नय सुपथा राये ’ अस्मान् विश्वानि देव वयुनानि विद्वान्। युयोध्य् अस्मज् जुहुराणम् एनो भूयिष्ठां ते नम ’ उक्तिं विधेम॥
व्याख्या: हे अग्नि देव! हमें उत्तम मार्ग पर ले चलो। हमारे पापों को दूर करो और हम आपकी स्तुति करते हैं।
