It is my firm belief that, if our plans of education are followed up, there will not be a single idolater among the respectable classes in Bengal thirty years hence. And this will be effected without any efforts to proselytise, without the smallest interference with religious liberty, merely by the natural operation of knowledge and reglection. It is hereby enacted, that from the day of the passing of this Act, any person may hold Capital Stock of the Bank of Bengal to an amount not exceeding 1,60,000 Company’s Rupees, and that any existing Proprietor of Stock of the said Bank, may subscribe for additional Stock of the said Bank in proportion to his interest, any restriction in the Charter of the said Bank contained notwithstanding.
The Act was declared by the Laws Local Extent Act, 1874 (Act XV of 1874), Section 7, page 250 to be in force in the whole of the Province of Agra then the North Western Provinces) except as regards the Scheduled Districts.

It is hereby enacted, that from the first January, 1838, the Calcutta Sicca Rupee shall cease to be a legal tender in discharge of any debt, but shall be received by the Collectors of Land Revenue, and at all other Public Treasuries by weight, and subject to a charge of 1 per cent for re-coinage.
