What is mind?

Theย mindย is a subject about which very much theorizing, experimenting, and expostulating has occurred inย philosophyย (studied under the headingย philosophy of mind),ย psychology, andย religionย (where, inย theology, it is often considered alongside such related notions asย soulย andย spirit).

MindMind We know nothing about its origin, growth, or demise. Where it lives, can it live without a brain? Possibly, the mind is the soul and spirit. See Consciousness is man

Mind is man. As the mind, so is the individual. If the mind is disturbed, the individual is disturbed. If the mind is good, the individual is good. This mind, for purposes of our study and understanding, may be considered as constituted of two distinct sides–one facing the worldWorld ฮšฯŒฯƒฮผฮฟฯ‚ of stimuli that reach it from the objects of the world, and the other facing the “within” which reacts to the stimuli received. The outer mind facing the object is called the objective mind–in SanskritSanskrit It is the oldest living language and civilizational mark. The language of Rig Veda or Atharva Veda (10000 years old) is a pre-Sanskrit Vedic language. It has its own Pratisakhya (Grammar) and Nirukta (Vocabulary).ย  40% of Tamil is Sanskrit. Before the written form, it was in the form of oral tradition. Such is the case ofย  Six Kanda Ramayana. Before Valmiki, it was in Oral form. Sanskrit has been the language ofย  Jambudvipa. The mother tongue of Sunok, Vasistha, Viswamitra or grandparents ofย  Zarathustra (Resource person of Abrahamic Religions) was the language of Rig Veda. The legend goes that the origin of Sanskrit is the sky, therefore, it is called Deva Bhasa. we call it the Manas–and the inner mind is called the subjective mind–in Sanskrit, the Buddhi. Substance or bundle?

There is a popular problem in philosophy about what the mind is, which can be presented as follows. It is commonplace to wonder what the mind, or soul (if you will), is. One can identify individual thoughts, individual feelings, in one’s mind. But what is this mind that has these thoughts and feelings? One can imagine all sorts of mental goings-on, but what is it to imagineย theย mindย itself? It seems the only way we have of understanding, by introspection, what our minds are is by considering various particular thoughts, feelings, decisions, and other eventsย inย our minds (i.e.,ย mental events).

So, someone might boldly maintain that we really do not have a mind, or a soul, per se–at least, we do not have any mind or soul that is distinct from our thoughts, perceptions, and other mental events. All there are is a series of thoughts and feelings that are associated with our bodies. There are no minds that are something over and above these thoughts and feelings. This would be the view of someone who held aย bundle theoryย about the mind. The Scottish philosopherย David Humeย held a theory of mind like this.ย Buddhismย holds a very similar view.

The view ofย common sense, it seems, is opposed to a bundle theory of the mind. We seem to have a mind, or soul, which is distinct from our thoughts and feelings–and that mind is just exactly what we call ourย selves. Hume seems to want to deny that there is such a thing as the self. To some people this seems absurd. To them, aย substance theoryย of mind will seem more attractive. On this view, one holds that there is something–one may not knowKnowledge Knowledge is derived from the process of an informed person integrating data from sense organs or intuition into their psyche. This concept is explored in the Vedic Nasadiya Sukta, which questions the possibility of ultimate truth or knowledge. In different languages, such as Greek, Latin, Sanskrit, and Chinese, knowledge is expressed as "ฮท ฮณฮฝฯŽฯƒฮท," "Scientia," "เคœเฅเคžเคพเคจเคฎเฅโ€Œ ," and "็Ÿฅ่ฏ† Zhฤซshรฌ," respectively. what, butย something–whichย hasย the thoughts and feelings, and the thoughts and feelings areย inย our minds, in about the same way that propertiesย inhereย in a substance.

Theology Vs Philosophy have not infrequently bandied the phrase “mental substance,” and indeed, it has been made central to theย ontologiesย of several philosophers, including most notablyย Gottfried Leibniz; according to Leibniz, theย monad, a “simple soul,” is that in terms of which everything else in the universe was to be explained. The notion of mental substance is also basic to theย dualismย ofย Renรฉ Descartes.ย David Humeย was very famous for advocating aย bundle theoryย of mind.

Psychological experiments on mind-body relations

In a study by Benjamin Libet, patients were asked to flex the index finger of their right hand suddenly at various times of their own choosing while the electrical signals in their brain were being recorded on an EEG. It was found that there was a gradual build-up of recorded electric potential for a second or a second and a half before the finger was actually flexed, indicating that the unconscious mind had made the decision before the conscious mindConscience The mind (depending on bio-electricity) can not work without memory and information, but consciousness can. Dreams come from consciousness. Conscience, in its moral sense, is the innate human ability to discern right from wrong and, based on this awareness, to guide, monitor, evaluate, and regulate oneโ€™s actions accordingly. Read: Mind is man. decided to act. Or, the actual initiation of volition may have begun earlier in some other part of the brain.

In another experiment on patients undergoing brain surgery, it took about half a second to register a stimulus applied to the skin, despite the factFact Something เคคเคฅเฅเคฏ (In-formation) that truly exists or happens or some-thing that has actual existence. Circumstances: a fact or event that makes a situation the way it is. Indian Evidence Act:ย It means and includesโ€” (i) anything, state of things, or relation of things, capable of being perceived by the senses; (ii) any mental condition of which any person is conscious. โ€œfacts in issueโ€ means and includes any fact from which, either by itself or in connection with other facts, the existence, non-existence, nature or extent of any right, liability or disability, asserted or denied in any suit or proceeding, necessarily follows. that the brain would have received the signal of the stimulus in about a hundredth of a second and the pre-programmed reflex response takes only about the tenth of a second.

However, it should be noted thatย mind and brain are two quite different concepts — the first implies an “inside-out” look, the second an “outside-in” look. We have little more than unprovable assumptions on how exactly the two are related.
