Z-MEDIA: Media mogul Subhash Chandra has resigned as chairman of his flagship company Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL), with immediate effect. While accepting his resignation, the board said this is in line with the Sebi Listing Regulations that prohibit chairperson of the board from being related to the managing director or the chief executive officer of the company, ZEEL said in a regulatory filing on Monday.
Irrigation corruption: Two days after he joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Devendra Fadnavis to form a government in Maharashtra, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday closed nine cases related to the Rs 70,000 crore irrigation scam in which Ajit Pawar is an accused.
Maharastra: Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, has given the BJP government in Maharashtra 14 days to prove majority in the assembly, on Monday. The deadline starts from Saturday morning after the Centre revoked President’s rule in Maharashtra a little before 6 am and Fadnavis took oath as Chief Minister.
AP strike: The nearly two month old strike by employees of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation over various demands was called off on Monday, a top trade union leader announced. The TSRTC employees unions Joint Action Committee (JAC) leader Aswathama Reddy said the decision to end the strike was taken to halt alleged attempts to ‘privatise’ the corporation. Over 48,000 employees of TSRTC went on an indefinite strike since October 5, demanding among other things, merger of the corporation with the state transport department.
AP liquor ban: The Andhra Pradesh government has cancelled all the 798 bars in the state and announced a new policy which includes a sharp hike in the fees for obtaining a bar licence. Deputy Chief Minister (Excise) K Narayana Swamy said, that the new (bar licence) policy issued on Friday is aimed at reducing the number of bars in the state by 40 per cent, as announced earlier. On October 1, we had issued a new policy by which the number of liquor shops in the state was reduced from 4,380 to 3,500, and the AP State Beverages Corporation took over these 3,500 liquor shops.”
WikiLeaks: Julian Assange founder of WikiLeaks published classified military and diplomatic files in 2010 about US bombing campaigns in Afghanistan and Iraq which proved highly embarrassing to the US government no facing health condition. More than 60 doctors wrote an open letter published Monday saying they feared Assange’s health was so bad that he could die inside a top-security British jail. In the letter to Home Secretary Priti Patel, Britain’s interior minister, the doctors call for Assange to be moved from Belmarsh prison in southeast London to a university teaching hospital.
US SEAL case: US President Donald Trump fires US navy chief Richard Spencer as Navy Secretary, a civilian position over handling of SEAL case, in a case that has fueled reports of anger among US military leadership over Trump’s interference in discipline cases. The dispute centers on the fate of Navy SEAL Edward Gallagher who was accused of war crimes in a high-profile case but was found guilty of a lesser offense. Gallagher was a Navy SEAL (Sea, Air, and Land) commando, was accused in the stabbing to death of a wounded Islamic State prisoner in Iraq in 2017, attempted murder of other civilians and obstruction of justice.

TAX: Collection of personal income tax and corporation taxes fell nearly 17 per cent in October, analysis of the data presented in Parliament shows. While the Central Board of Direct Taxes had collected Rs 61,475 crore in October 2018, the mop-up fell to Rs 50,715 crore in October 2019, the data suggests.
ONION PRICE: Public sector trading firm MMTC has contracted to procure 6,090 tonnes of onion imports to boost domestic supply and ease prices, according to sources. Last week, the Union Cabinet decided to import 120,000 tonnes of onions to improve the domestic supply and control prices, which touched Rs 100 per kg earlier this month. Retail prices are ruling at around Rs 70 per kg in the national capital.
BSNL: Over 92,000 employees of state-run BSNL and MTNL have so far opted for the recently announced VRS. The scheme and the strong response it has generated marks the biggest milestone in the history of these state-owned corporations. Over 92,000 employees of BSNL and MTNL have opted for the scheme so far, the source added.
