BRUTALITY ON LAWYERS: Delhi Police brutalized the lawyers at Tis Hazari court on Saturday over a parking issue. A police vehicle was set ablaze at the premises. Lawyers alleged that two of their colleagues were injured in police firing, but the police denied that it had opened fire. Chairman of Bar Council of Delhi KC Mittal said, “We strongly condemn the brutal unprovoked attack on lawyers by police at Tis Hazari Courts. One lawyer is critical. A young lawyer was beaten in lockup by a high-handedness of police. They should be dismissed and prosecuted. We stand with Delhi lawyers.” The incident can be compared with the Howrah court police brutalization of this year. In a strong condemnation Bar Associations called a one-day strike across all district courts in the national capital on November 4.
Ratul Puri: The Enforcement Directorate filed a supplementary charge sheet on2nd November before a Delhi court against Ratul Puri, nephew of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath, Charge sheet was made in a money laundering case related to the alleged AgustaWestland chopper scam. The agency arrested Puri on September 4 and he is currently in judicial custody.
RCEP: India wants a “win-win outcome” from negotiations for a China-backed regional trade pact, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 2nd November as he called for “balance across goods, services and investments”. “We have put forward reasonable proposals in a clear manner and are engaged in negotiations with sincerity,” he said in an interview with the Bangkok Post, about the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).
Whatsapp: In the ongoing conflict between the government and WhatsApp over Israeli malicious software being used to spy on some Indian citizens, government sources said 0n 1st November that WhatsApp had not disclosed to Indian authorities full information about the video calling vulnerability.WhatsApp had given information to CERT-IN, a government agency as seen in the attached image in May. As is seen in the image, it is communication in pure technical jargon without any mention of Pegasus or the extent of the breach.
Insulin: Strides Pharma Science could get access to the insulin market as Stelis Biopharma, in which it is in the process of acquiring a controlling stake, is building an integrated insulin and insulin analog platform with proprietary technology. The company believes Stelis could be a disruptor in insulin accessibility and affordability. Strides may commercialise the insulin coming out of the R&D facility in the future but has not set a timeline for the same.
Tata Trusts: The Income-Tax Department has canceled the registration of six trusts operating under Tata Trusts. It was a move that could result in a tax liability of about Rs 12,000 crore for the organisation. The cancellation order was on account of activities that are not commensurate with the Articles of Association, according to an official.
DHFL: The government has ordered an SFIO probe into alleged financial irregularities at mortgage lender DHFL after finding instances of suspected fund diversions, according to a source. There were allegations against Dewan Housing Finance Ltd (DHFL that the company had siphoned off Rs 31,000 crore worth bank loans through layers of shell entities.
Apple: Apple Inc asked the Trump administration to waive tariffs on Chinese-made Apple Watches, iPhone components, and other consumer products, according to company filings with the US Trade Representative’s Office. The company on 31st October sought tariff exclusions from 11 products, including HomePod speakers, iMac computers, parts for use in repairing iPhones, iPhone smart battery cases, AirPods, and others.
ARAMCO-Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman approved for the initial public offering of Aramco. The crown prince made the decision at a meeting he chaired on Friday, an official announcement is likely as soon as Sunday. The valuation will probably be closer to $1.5 trillion as per Reuter. The sale is key to Prince Mohammed’s Vision 2030 plan to overhaul the Saudi economy.
86% GROWTH: Guyana will see its economy zoomed 86 per cent next year after expanding 4.4 per cent this year, according to the International Monetary Fund. Guyana’s $4 billion annual gross domestic product is about a tenth the size of Vermont’s, it will expand to about $15 billion by 2024, according to the IMF.
PAKISTAN AZADI MARCH: In the Core Committee meeting of the ruling PTI has decided to move the courts against JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman for allegedly “instigating the public” against the government. Defence Minister Pervez Khattak said that Rehman had announced that the public will detain Prime Minister Imran Khan at his residence to force him to resign, which the minister said was tantamount to instigating the people and a “mutiny”.
