Trump Visit: India and the US on Tuesday finalised defence deals worth USD 3 billion, and signed three MoUs, including one in energy sector, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted that the two countries have decided to take Indo-US ties to comprehensive global partnership level.

Delhi Violence: The number of people who have died in the violence in the national capital has gone up to 13, as violence continues for a third day and the Centre, which is in charge of law and order in the city, do precious little to bring the situation under control. Delhi Police, which functions under the Union Home Ministry, on Tuesday claimed that the situation was under control. Special officers along with the additional forces are being deployed in violence-hit areas of Delhi.

Special Police Commissioner: The government appointed a 1985 batch IPS officer – S N Shrivastava from the CRPF  to Delhi Police. He has been appointed as special commissioner of police – law and order. Shrivastava was posted as special director general in Central Reserve Police Force.

Himachal CM: Reacting to the incidents of violence in Delhi, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur Tuesday said only those who would say ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ will stay in India. Responding to media queries following the first sitting of the Vidhan Sabha’s Budget Session, Thakur said, “Bharat mein Bharat Mata ki Jai karne wala rahega… aur jo nahi bolega, jo Bharat ka virodh karega, sanvidhanik vyavasthaon ka sammaan nahi karega, niraadar karega, baar baar karega, unke baare mei nischit roop se vichar karne ki aavyashakta hai

Exam Postponed: CBSE has postponed Class 10, 12 exams in northeast Delhi scheduled on Wednesday while exams will be held in remaining areas as per schedule, officials involved with the decision said. The exams scheduled for February 26th, 2020 are now postponed and the new dates will be notfied shortly, CBSE said.

RS Election: Elections to 55 Rajya Sabha seats falling vacant in April will be held on March 26, the Election Commission announced on Tuesday. Fifty-one of these 55 seats from 17 states are falling vacant on different dates in April due to retirement of sitting members, while four other seats are already vacant due to resignation of members.

Bihar  NRC: The Bihar Assembly Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution to not implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state. “National Register of Citizens (NRC) bogey is being raised despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s categorical statement that NRC is not on the anvil,” Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was quoted as saying by PTI.

Dissent and Democracy: Delivering a lecture on Democracy and Dissent, Justice Deepak Gupta on Monday said, “Dissent is the very basis of society. Society will not develop if there is no dissent; it will stagnate if there is no dissent.”
