Assange -v- Govt of the United States of America (28.06.24)

On June 28, 2024, in the High Court of Justice King’s Bench Division, the extradition request for Julian Paul Assange by the Government of the United States of America was withdrawn. The decision to extradite Assange was quashed, and he was discharged. The proceedings on the Appeal were discontinued. No costs were ordered.

UPON the Respondent by diplomatic note No. 625 dated 26 June 2024 notifying the Secretary of State that the extradition request for the Appellant is withdrawn.

AND UPON consideration of section 124 of the Extradition Act 2003.

AND BY CONSENT

IT IS ORDERED THAT:

  1. The Appellant be discharged.
  2. The decision of the Secretary of State to order the extradition of the Appellant is quashed.
  3. The Appellant, not being before the court, is to be notified of this order by his representatives as soon as possible.
  4. The proceedings on the Appeal be discontinued and the hearing of the Appeal listed for 9 and 10 July 2024 is vacated.
  5. There be no order for costs of the proceedings here and below.
  6. Approved by Mr Justice Johnson
