Modi-Trump meeting: US President Donald Trump will deliver his address to the UN General Assembly today. After that, he will hold a number of bilateral meetings with PM Modi. With their meeting today, the two leaders would be meeting for the fourth time in as many months. SC about misuse of social media: The Supreme Court today observed that technology has been misused to create fake media contents and asked the Centre to apprise it within three weeks about the time-frame needed to come up with guidelines to curb misuse of social media in the country. The Supreme Court expressed serious concern over some social media platforms not being able to trace the originator of a message or an online content.
SC on attachment of immovable properties: The Supreme Court today held that police cannot attach immovable properties during investigation of a criminal case.A bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and justices Deepak Gupta and Sanjiv Khanna held that Section 102 of CrPC does not include the power of police to seize and attach immovable properties.
Coal India workerโs strike: Production and dispatch has come to a complete halt at the mines of Coal India Ltd and Singareni Collieries Company Ltd, owing to the one-day strike against the Centre’s decision to allow 100 per cent FDI in coal mining.Five federations representing over half-a-million workers of CIL and Singareni Collieries called for the strike, seeking withdrawal of the central government’s move.
New Jersey: The governor of New Jersey Phil Murphy paid a six-city tour to India from September 15-22, 2019 with focus on inviting companies to invest and create jobs. POK: At least 19 people were killed and more than 300 others injured in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on Tuesday after a 5.8-magnitude quake jolted several cities in the northern parts of the country including capital Islamabad. According to US Geological Survey, the epicentre of quake was near New Mirpur in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Russia accepted Paris agreement: Russia said it would implement the 2015 Paris Agreement to fight climate change after Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on 23rd September approved a government resolution signifying Moscowโs final acceptance of the deal. The same resolution said Russia would not technically ratify the accord however due to a legal nuance. Mr. Medvedev said Moscow would adapt the accord to existing legal norms.
Amazon rain forest: Brazilโs Defence Minister said on September 24 that 63 people were arrested and issued fines amounting to $8.7 million after the military was sent to fight raging fires in the Amazon rain forest.

London: Britain’s Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled the decision by Prime Minister Boris Johnson to suspend parliament in the run-up to Brexit, as โunlawfulโ saying it was “void and of no effect”. “The court is bound to conclude… that the decision to advise Her Majesty to prorogue parliament was unlawful,” Supreme Court head Brenda Hale said in the ruling.

RBI restricts PMC bank: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has placedrestriction on the business of Mumbai-based Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative Bank (PMC Bank) for six months following detection of alleged irregularities. PMC Bank had business of Rs 20,000 crore comprising deposits of Rs 11,617 crore and advances to the tune of Rs 8,383 crore at the end of March 2019.
Introduction of fourth slab in Income Tax: The panel for drafting a new legislation on direct taxation has suggested an overhaul of personal income tax (I-T) slabs, to increase disposable income and give a fillip to consumer demand. Sources said the draft legislation had proposed four tax brackets by introducing a new slab of 35 per cent for those earning an annual income of Rs 2 crore and above.
Foreign Funds: The government has eased the client-verification requirement under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act for overseas investors who want to put money in the depository receipts of Indian companies, Now, foreign investors do not need to complete any separate KYC (know your client) process as per Indian rules, and can buy depository receipts of Indian companies based on the proof of identity they have established with authorities in their country of origin, said a government notification issued last week.
Increase savings in Power distribution companies: The Union governmentโs decision to cut the corporation tax is expected to generate savings worth Rs 4,000 crore to power distribution companies. Whether the savings will mean cheaper power or not, however, will depend on a host of regulations.The source of power, renewable or non-renewable, and the nature of the market, regulated or merchant, will be a factor in deciding whether the cost would go down.
ENERGY: Asserting that Rs 5 trillion investment in coal-based power plants was in jeopardy due to the dry fuel shortage, Power Secretary S C Garg on Tuesday said there is an urgent need to bring in large global players for commercial mining to boost output.
